Dear to whom it may concern,

Most of your WC3 users make UMS maps for battle.net. But your would editor is rarely enough to make a good map. So we must start moding files such as skins and mdx models. The moding Community has come a long way we can edit mdx models skin, create our own skins and do Basic animation. We however do not know enough about the mdx format to do Complex modeling animation such bone chains and pivot points. I am writing this to ask may we have the mse script plug in that you used in exporting model form 3d-studio max. This would allow us to export some of the great animations that we made in 3dstudio max into your game. The mod community as a whole is not into reselling mods or any illegal activity that violates the user end agreement that is sent with the WC3 CD. All we want is the plugin that you used so we can make better maps on battel.net and make wc3 better then ever in UMS games. If you don't want to send the Plugin please at least send us more information about the mdx format. If you can not do either of these please respond any ways so you don't leave us hanging. Thank you very much for your time.

What did you expect??
The exporter + explanation + perhaps the source code??
Blizzard are assholes and if they wanted to give us the plugin they would have done so.If they don't they will never do.
I hope your friend is able to do something, but if he asks them about it i'm sure they won't let him :(

Hmmmm... try that Havok exporter in ASCII format, and see what it does. It might at least have pieces that can be used for mdl format, though who the frig knows

I highly doubt it'll be much use, but I haven't used Reactor before.

argg... I am getting an interesting error that nobody else seems to be getting. Surprisingly enough, it's a compile error rather than an execution error. This is the dialog box I get:

Quote:
MAXScript FileIn Exception

-- Compile error: No outer local variable references permitted here: add_anim_rollout
-- In line: DestroyDialog add_anim_rollout

I can't seem to get it working, and I've tried even reinstalling 3DS Max 4.2, to no avail. It doesn't give me a line number, only what's in the line, but it's near the bottom of the script.

Anyway, hopefully someone can help me out :)

Well my friend emailed me he says they wont even let him see it they are afrea that this plug in would alow us to de code the game engine even though that makes no sense gess there layers envoled and they dont want us selll a really good looking mod beause we made our own models and could try to sell them in the mdx format with blizzard owns. Thats what i got from my friend. Sorry all i wanted the plugin as much as you all blizzard needs to think of its fans in the mod comutity more.

Everybody SIGN THE PETITION!!!!
I just hope blizzard aren't such big ***** and give us the tool.
So sign and SPREAD ABOUT IT!
Just don't post idiotic comments.
About Havok's reactor- it has nothing to do with our thing. It turned out to be a plugin for high-poly animations, things like fluids, clothing and other stuf.I supose it is just a coincidence.

One of the main reasons they wont release it probably, is because they know that pretty much 99% of people using programs like 3dsm to model, are using illegal cracked versions. If they released the script to convert models for use in the game it probably creates lots of legal issues about a blizzard game using illegal created models. Im not a lawyer so I cant give you specifics, but I can bet there are legal issues involved.

Number one most of the people who model are about 16 which mean the might have a job like me and you dont need the lastest vesrion of 3dmax to model 4.0 will do once you get free upgrde to 4.2 .This wil cost about $1000 thats only a 8 weeks worth of work more people have REAL ver then you give creait plus autodisk would only sue if we made a big proffit they have too many other problem with real compenies using cracked 3dmax to make games they could care less untill you make money off it. Blizzard is just trying to keep their mdx format from being used to make a proffit 3dmax has nothing to do with it. Thats what my friend who works there told me. We need to quite there fears on makeing a proffit off their format to get the plugin.

COOLer: if your going to contact a big company and expect a decent reply, you have to make sure your email/letter meets a few criteria:
*no spelling errors.
*no grammatical errors.
*is paragraphed (if neccessary).
*is coherent.

scoring 0/4, i dont really know what you were expecting?

Even if that's the case they CAN make the script to be avaible only to GMAX.That eliminates the possibility of illegal software, but i doubt they care about discreet.

-Er, actually they can't make the script available only to GMax; it's maxscript doesn't support file writing.

But in any case I don't think that's why they won't release it; look at games like Quake III. Have they ever had any legal problems with 3D modelling companies? Not that I know of.

If they ARE worried that it would release too much about the game, why don't they just spend the extra time to write a 'public release' exporter based on their own that would be safe for us to use? It would be a big step to improve the popularity of WC3, especially right before an expansion release. Look at Diablo II for example; they released the game and expansion a year ago, but they are still working on a new patch that will feature tons of new items, a brand spanking new ladder, and other features and balance changes. Obviously Blizzard North care to spend the extra time on Diablo II; why don't Blizzard do the same for WC3?
