Editing models isn't the only use of this tool. I find it very useful when making skins to be able to view the changes very quickly and it helps a lot with that. If people would read they would find that I say that you can use gmax or 3dsmax4+ to import and 3dsmax4.2+ to export. It's not my fault you can't use gmax to export. Discreet disabled the write-to-file capabilities of maxscript in gmax. The next release is going to concentrate on animation, so you'll have to do particle emitters manually for a while yet. |

Actually, KMK... I believe the write-to capabilities are only removed in the FREE version of GMAX. I don't have the pay version though, so I'm not sure. |

Guest | Hey,KMK That's forbidden. I ca'nt download it. It seems you have removed the file or the link in your free server is wrong. |

Same here KMK, and it stinks. I had to restart a few models coz of that... but it happened again now and I'm not restarting, waiting for either a fix or something :P |

kmk, in your next release of your export/import mdx maxscript thingy, can you make it export bones and helpers so that we can atatch to our custom models? that would be a big help. and anyway, in order for animations, dont you have to have bones? |

Guest | Does the no export thing apply to gmax 1.2? It seems relatively new (I had 1.1 from a month or two ago), and "export" and "export selected" are avaliable under the File menu (whereas in 1.1, they were not). I still get the "fopen write mode" error. My first guess is inconsistancy in gmax 1.2, but I thought I'd ask. |

Guest | KMK real quick question.Have you been able to figure out how war3 does animations?Interpolation Or skely animation. emote_sweat |

Turns out, the free version of gmax CAN export. As I described, Export and Export Selected are avaliable in the File menu in gmax 1.2, which I downloaded for free from discreet yesterday. And they didn't just enable those and have them do nothing. From the file menu, you can export as plasma (p3d). That's why I was asking if there were inconsistancies on what and how things are exportable. Does anybody who knowns what they're talking about know? -- N. Webb |

what he means is that gmax cant write to files using MAXScript that means that you wont be able to export with scripts and such |

Guest | That's the inconsistancy I was asking about. exporting via MAXScript vs standard exporting. -- N |
