Skinning Challenge Thread

Woot! 4th place out of all the contestants in the skinning contest! Thats gatta be a record! well... for me at least! muhahahah when does the next one start?

Edit: I guess you guys like reskins much more than just changes in the actual skin itself. I'll do that next time. might I sugest we get an unwrap from a custom model from a mod? that way we actually are helping out the wc3campaigns comunity (Concept would be nice if they have one or at least a fairly good discription)

my comp is being screwy and its hard to even open more than one window now and im confused on which ones are the final versions for the Dryad contest, so could someone send me by pm the links to the final versions of the dryad contest so i can judge again? thanks.

Hmmm.. i gotta think abou this.. its not really my comp to set up a judging setup but its not happening soon if i dont so i think i will...

Im probobally going to use 2 difent judges this tiome because Saikann and Tyrant (Bless them) are probobally getting tired of looking at all theese mediochre skins... soooo... im going to take a look around some of the WIP forums and grap a few good CnpErs (Strmrage junior, Ewrt (Lol, doubt he's gonna judge a little weak skinning contest) etc...) sooo. be back soon... P.S. i still dont know if i even can make the skinning contest yet, i gotta hear from horus.

Hmm not a bad idea.. i actually thought of this myself at various stages, but found that it might not suit their purpouse. still, ill PM a few people if i can find any skins they want competed on (Its always good to have 5 versions right?)

Well, garith, any news from horus?

Okay guys here is my judgement on your skins, which I must say all were very awesome!
Reaper- 8.4/10- looks very good but idea has been used a bit to much
Windrunner- 8/10- well the concept was great, mechanical vampire, however not that much detail
Horus- 8.5/10- well I thought this one was very interesting, a blend of Egyptian, Dark Elf, and...leaves! Some parts good some parts not detailed
Garith-hmmmm...this one i gave a 8.2/10- this one was a amazingly great idea. However the face had very little detail even though the fur was great! Hope you guys appreciate my judging!

2. I contacted garith, i wish to hear what his idea before i agree. I do not want more stuff related to the undead, or a unwrap i despise.

3. I like the smell of victory (dryad) I hope it stays that way

5. I will not agree to helping mods. They can get thier own skinners. I do this for fun. I hope someone else agrees with me.

6. I am always reading the forum, just because i do not post means nothing.

7. An idea: We seem to have a core of skinners here nowadays....maybe we could make something like Insomnia Graphics (lol). Just an idea

8. I need a mod to clean this up a bit, so if anyone can contact one..some comments are useless and are just taking up space.

9. I will link every skin ever made to the Skinning Thread Frontpage. If you wish to post completed wips of your submitted skins, and hare them displayed on the first page, pm me the link (of the wip/completed subforum thread where the .blp is)

9 you mean every skin made in the contests? well, heres my dryad. its not like i need it or anything.

oook... my replies:

1: lol, Hey! i dident mean to say this was weak! in fact! this is the only place i skin for atm! Well.. Ewrt replied saying it was weak and had mediochre skins so i was right anyway ;)

2: Were in tough thinking of something to do as my idea turened out to be a little worse then i though when i checked the model not to worry! were workin on it!

3: Dam faces! i cna never get detail in them! im just no good at faces! and EVERYONE loves that dam texture! (My fur and Cape texture style (lol, yep its pretty much the same thing)

4: Im working on... Eliminating.. that Problem ......(Maniacal laughter)

5: I think what was ment was just getting a skinning contest model that will be used in a campaign.. i dont object to it, if someone wants to put their model up as a contest let em... but i have no stron opinion either way.

6: I post most times i vist but yeah, sometimes at schoool i just cant be bothered logging in ,lol

Sorry for the delay, i had to reboot my comp.

Here's the scores...

Thereaper's Forsaken Dryad - 7.5/10, good idea, good use of the model. It's not the most original however, too many people these days make forsaken skins. the textures look great, but a little more could have been added to make it more interesting.

windrunner's mecha dryad - 8/10, very nice textures, color scheme coulda been a lil better, the concept is cool. the hair isnt too impressive though.

horusrouge's dryad skin - 6.5/10, not really consistent. too many different textures. some look good, others not. it doesnt really have a core theme. the screenshot could been better too... cant see that much but i dint judge on that.

garith's dryad skin - 6.5/10, the fur texture looks nice. all the cloth and hair could have been alot better. the muscles were too undefined. the face was also undefined. the idea is great though.

btw: hurry up with the new challenge...
