\Ok, What I would want to see in a TD

1. Don't follow th. same damn "Build Tower , Kill Monster , Repeat" try focusing on units as well as towers, Your normal builder makes all towers, Towers produce your units, I.e. Slow Tower Produces slow spider for (XXXX)X Gold.

2. Make levels vary, Have creeps go one too three at a time, That would reduce lag, Add bonuses to make a disadvantage for laggy players that make mazes with worthless towers, that also helps.

Also try making

-Multiple modes
-Upgradable Towers
-Fast shooting towers, small zone for solo play, don't focus as much on very high hit points or damage
-Make it fast, fun, and try to prevent lag where you can, If you can.

Ok... i started on this idea but got stuck right smack dab in the middle (litaraly) you see they began in all corners the top left crossed through mid to bottom right, top right to bottom left and vise versa. some extras started in top right and had to go all the way around the perimeter but naturaly as the ones that go through the middle went through the middle they got stuck on eachother :( if u wanna use warps or something ( i though this would give the player a disadvantage) feel free. thats my idea ;)

Try to make some of the tower attack projectiles into that of spells. My personal favorite is the missile for Dark Conversion. But you might wanna use the Death Coil and Starfall missiles, and some others as well. Don't just give an ice tower frost arrows or the attack of Frost Wyrm. Be more creative. I also liked the TD where you have to build units to go through your enemy's TD, and with the income and stuff... That was a very cool idea. I suggest you come up with something just as new and exciting... like a team TD where each team uses towers that trade off turns of attacking and defending... Erm... just think about it...

Ok, sorry if I repeat anything, but I dont care too much for these other ppls ideas so far, so I skipperd the rest...

Ok, I think that it should be long, maybe 40 lvls, and it needs to get as hard as possible without being impossible(Taking into account that other ppl will be dropping creeps on u), like that other guy said, so that ppl always try to finish it.

Their should be plenty of upgrades, and a few "Races" or what ever, not too many, so you dont repeat towers, maybe like 3 tech trees, each with plenty of towers, but only one worker, I hate ones with 2 workers.

Um, the towers need NEW and interesting attacks and such

I think it should be player vs player, and people build up wood at the same rate they build up gold, and they can use wood to drop creeps and such onto all enemies

There shouldnt be attacking enemies, that kills a TD, because its just dumb... thats why, it defeats the purpose...

yea ive been trying to come up with some cool firing animations, so far some highlights:

-War stomp
-The infernal metoer thing
-Starfall
-The cinemtac lightning doodad
If you guys could think of any good projectiles can you plz post them here! Even better would be an idea for a tower they could be used on.

BTW exalted one which dark summoning one do you like?, is it:

I'll Tell ya.... The ONLY Tower Defense map I ever liked was Tower Attack v1.1 made by Zak_ , yes, that was the one with the income and where you spawn the creeps to run the maze. I did like Arkguil tower defense which was way ahead of it's time. But one thing I can't stand is seeing someone put their name on a map that they didnt design.... like all those hero arena spoofs... piss me off

Here is my TD, its a Cube Defense like, all made from scratch :

Of course it has drawbacks, like a little too many SFX, but i really worked hard to make it innovative and technically more advanced that all other TDs i ever played before (apart from Hive's Revenge TD that remains the best overall for me).

This map also has lots of cosmetics, but for an unknowed reason, i couldn't stand getting rid of them.

- It is survivor.

- It has 2 difficulty settings chosen through 2 Dialogs :
Monsters HP
Monsters Speed

- It has a give gold command (i know this sounds a bit silly for a survivor)

- It has environmental commands (zoom/day/night/weather/music).

- It has a "summon punisher" command for the current host, giving him a powerful hero-type unit to destroy towers from a badly behaved player rather than kicking him (hope won't be abused) - of course the punisher can't attack monsters.

- It has many towers that can all (but 2) be upgraded.

- One of the towers (can't be upgraded) can train 2 hero types :
1) Apprentice Cubic Hero, limited to 2 and can be upgraded twice
2) Flying Cubic Hero, limited to one, can't be upgraded

- It has a unique sell button that displays the amount of gold refunded and with no RALLY point (not even hidden)

- It has 51 levels (i know it seems a bit much but i actually can't lower it as my friends and i would hate that)

- All towers and heros have different casting art, and heros have 2 different casting arts whether they attack ground or air

- It also has a few other features but what i listed here gives you and idea.



I am currently slowing its developpement as it has reached a near bug-free status, but i still find it difficult to adjust balance. Your feedback would be much appreciated.


Notes :

1) If you hate TDs, don't waste your time flaming me, i would much appreciate.

2) If you try it and can't play it beyond the 5 first levels, try to lower difficulty settings

3) If you hate it please flame me, but at least give me your reasons

4) If you love it please worship me ( lol ) but still try to find things that could be improved as i run out of ideas afters so many weeks of hard work.

5) If you have a computer with less than 1Gb of ram and a less than 2GHz processor, i would advise that you lower your graphic settings due to the huge amount of sfx attacks.

I thank you ever so much for your Cube Defense map, and wherever you are now, you need to know i have never managed to get any fun from a TD before i played yours (I am not including Hivemind's Hive's Revenge TD has it is surpassing all other TD's concepts).

That is the reason why most of my map is inspired on yours, making it a cube-like. I tried to make it different, but not too much. Making a terrain with the same dimensions and similar layout to yours took me a hell of a lot of hard work. I did this as your base terrain shape was better than any alternative i tried to create.

I hope you are still around, and if you are, feel free to contact me as i would love to discuss the fate of server splits for most Cube Defense versions that i think i definitely managed to uncurse.

Almost every TD i play sucks ***.
Cube D is alright, but there's that cheat people do, but the game sucks without a good -sell system, which was deleted to stop the cheat.
Ark is garbage now
Wintermaul and all the other clones are shit.

Turret Wars was good, but it was SOOOOOO long.

Here's what I'd like to see:

Firstly, i'm dissapointed that nothing made by anyone here never seems to be B.Net friendly. i'd like to see a Infernal projectile, new skins, new icons, new models, and spells in a map.

Second, i'd like to see a good system of towers:
5 basic types of towers (just imagine a tech tree) that have two upgrade for each one. If you pick the first, the tower you upgrade has a different name, projectile, and a different looking model. From there you upgrade again and get a different projectile, etc. That way you have a large tree of different towers, which, in combination with different elements, are like different strats in Wc3. Let's say you have a "Squall" Tower. Now you have another tower called "Inferno" tower. (This would be hard to do) you can have a "combonation" icon. You select a nearby towerand you can upgrade the original tower and destroy the one you select. that way this new tower has, let's say, a increased attack speed, cause wind's fast, and a increases splash dmaage, cause fire spreads with wind. Or you can keep it simple and give them abilities like slow posin ,purge, or freezing breath. That way it'd be liek the Wintermaul "Ice poisin"combo. But there would be different combos for different level towers. this would decrease the amount of space needed for towers and reduce lag.

Third, find ways to reduce lag so it's not like maze TD on level 29.

Fourth, i'd like to see something like the Turret Wars Beta. You have 8 players. These 8 players are each in different rows or areas. 2 on each side of a square. In the center is the spawn area with the merchants for creeps (high cost, little numbers to reduce lag). These merchants can be upgraded. Except instead of a timed income, the more creeps that get to the other area, the mor emoney you get every minute. this is unliken the addition income in turret wars, where you got cash every 30. You type a number corrosponding with each player. So you can type in 8 and send your creeps to 8. Or you can have the guy go to a certain area or something like that. This way there's less creep lag, and the distance is shorter.

Summary: A FFA TD with a four level tower system based on the elements of Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, and Lightning (or Darkness). Down the tech tree of the four levels are 75 towers in total, which in combination with other towers by selecting them gives the new towers the abilities of both in less space. In the center is a Creep area, where the player makes creeps to go at any of the 7 other players. He can decide which creeps go where. The last person standing wins the match.
Includes new projectiles, icons, towers, names, upgrades, models, skins, sounds, and a whole new tower system.

that sounded kind of weird and is a little too complex, but what the Hell.

[edit] New Idea. You start out with those 5 towers. Now you have 5 icon upgrades. If you select the same element icon as the original tower, it makes it more powerful. If you select a different element icon, you have a tower which will be upgraded into a combonation of the same level tower. But this prevents it form upgrading again, for simplicity's sake. Now if you chose the same one, you still get the same 4 elements. now you can choose a different element, which will make it a completley different tower with a combonation of the same level tower you chose.
Ex. starting fire tower is called the "Fire" tower.
Now you want to combine it with another level one tower. Let's call it a "wind" tower. Now when you combine it, it's called the "fire-wind" tower. The level one towers are all basic, so the new tower would just be a slightly faster tower with faster attack. If you upgraded the fire tower from its original tower to a "Magma" tower, then combine it with a "Darkness" tower, you get a spell driven tower with a larger splash damage.

One thing I have to include: each element is in charge of a property:
Fire: Increased speed (Fire hurts constantly)
Wind: Increased distance (wind goes far)
Water: All-around
Lightning: Damage (lightning isn't hurting you constantly. It is a bang then nothing.)
Darkness: It's driven by spells so you get a better spell

You could also come up with weaknesses of each, so a fire-wind tower will have increased speed and distance, but a smaller attack.
Water and darkness are the odd ones out of the bunch.

[edit] in the end, a tower upgraded all the way up to level three, the end of upgrades, it is pure. So you can upgrade it once and combine, upgrade it twice and combine, but nothing after that. That keeps it simpler for the developer and player. but the "pure" tower is only increased in it's specific area. So a Wind tower will just get larger distance, not mroe dmaage, better spells, faster attack or a all around increases.
Alot of the stuff posted is inspired by the best GBA RPGs: golden sun and the Lost Age. for names of each element tower, I'd look online for the list of Dijinn. they have good names for each element. so look for a GS and GS2 guide that talks about the Djinn and their names. Use the ultimate Dijinn (lvl 4) for the best towers, the lvl 3.

Ill just ask this question in this thread, as opposed to creating a new one:
Wen a creep dies it show that little animation with the coins and then shows your bounty, what I want to do is have the bit where the coins come out as a the sell animation for my towers.
Ive got all the selling triggers worked out, (the price you get back is the unit point value, or 75% of the value it was bought at).
All the I need is the string for the effect (if it exists), but if there is another way of doing it please speak up.

a bit disappointed nobody even tried my map... anyways i still have my own fans on northend ^^

Chiken Soup :

First my map is NOT Cube D , is a much more advanced Cube-like TD, it has no cheats available, a UNIQUE sell system, tons of different features, all towers change when upgraded (even heros ^^) etc...

It is harder than the original cube, then make sure you choose Normal HP / Slow Speed as test difficulty settings.
But looking at your recommendations, even if some nice ideas you introduced aren't actually in it, i am sure you will find interesting features in it.

I don't understand, i have all game settings set to the max, but all i can see is the bounty number displayed when a creep is killed :/

Anyways, maybe you should try my map (link a couple of msg above) and then you could tell me if you are interested in my advanced sell button that shows the cash given back (useful for upgraded towers) if not there is another sell button i made with no rally point (quite easy to do actually ^^)

In the end, if u definitely want to have the coin animation that i can't see :'( , it has to have a model somewhere in the war3.mpq, maybe called bounty or whatever. all you need to do is create a special effect at the tower position (when you removed it after the sell button has been pressed) with the animation model name with full path.
