Look, this needs an official website. And everyone who will use the list must link to the website (I mean for those, if any, that get's booted must get a message to go here). Then, at the website, you can look at all "charges", in other words, names and what they are on the ban-list for. So... If you have been innocently put on the list, or you swear yourself clean in any other way, you may (if the mods allow it) be taken off the list. Every time someone makes a new map you should always get the latest ban-list for the map from the site... This way the system will be fresh and people wrongfully accused has a shot at coming clean. Damn, how did you find all of our alt names? 0_o We have thought about doing this b4. Wasnt going to do a free running system was just going to hardcode the names into a trigger. The only problem is the evil-doers can always change thier name. Some of them might get the hint however. Especialy if the find themselves banned from half of the maps out there. :gsmile: |

I like the idea. |

what stops them from making a new account and being an idiot on that one? |
| 06-30-2003, 09:48 PM | #22 |
It sounds good but there is the problem of being able to make any number of accounts... Besides you would need a bunch of triggers or a couple really really long triggers... (ex) Map Initialization if/name of player1 = bannedperson / Player Defeat / Else do nothing if/name of player2 = bannedperson / Player Defeat / Else do nothing if/name of player3 = bannedperson / Player Defeat / Else do nothing if/name of player4 = bannedperson / Player Defeat / Else do nothing if/name of player5 = bannedperson / Player Defeat / Else do nothing etc. for each and every player on the list...... Unless there is a much easier way to do this that im not seeing... So on a map with 10 players, and 20 people on the ban list, it would be roughly 200 triggers (or 200 if/then/else actions) |

very impractical on bnet.... impossible to do without serverside compatability. |

Guest | I suggest that if they are on the list, instead of booting them, start a cinematic that they CAN'T skip, something annoying, like a dancing panda for 5 minutes or so (better yet, put a timer in the corner that says 5 minutes left, and at the end, restart the movie a few times) and after this torture, boot them. On second thought, that's a tad cruel, but that's what crazy ideas tend to be. |

Playing a cinimatic for one player causes dsync. Nice idea tho. The triggering would be no problem. Tons of ppl around here could make it. Even better there is a way to connect to a website from B-Net. This system could have a central website that has all of the name info on it. Map makers would just have to add a special file or trigger to thier maps that accessed this site. When the website is updated with a name it will work for every map that has the trigger/file without needing a update to the map ver. The best way to do it would be to have the player booted before the game starts. Unfortunatley setting it up will prob not be possable. Also it would be better if it could ban IP adresses instead of names. If we do that tho we should have different levels of banning. Giving them a 1 week ban to think over thier attitude would be a good idea. If they still dont get the point perma-ban em. We think there should be a limited number of ppl that could do any actual banning. They should be the ppl who have the most at stake. That would be ppl from the maping/moding comunity and or top ranked ladder players. It should be ppl who have a stake in upholding thier reputations. Other ppl could file a complaint against somone and send it to the site. Enough complaints and someone who is on the list of moderators would decide weather they should be banned. There should also be a way to pettion to get unbaned. This kind of thing could backfire however. Ban somone with some programing/cracking skill and they could end being more than a minor pain. Even without any programing skill we could make all kinda hell for mapmakers if we wanted to. We do like the idea and will support any resionable effort to implement a system like this. |

Um, I think it would be VERY VERY hard to implement a system like that. And it would probably like triple the file size of the map, and make alot of ppl leave in the middle of the downloading process. Alot od ppl wouldnt play it, becuz it takes so long to downlaod the bantheidiots part, that the actual game size would hafta be kept to a minimum, and wouldnt be as fun ^IMO^:ggani: |

Oh really? There is a trigger function that allows you to access webpages? No. There isnt anything near that. Don't make stuff up when suggesting things. |

WHY DO PEOPLE IGNORE MY POST? Look, we need to make a site before we start using this. We need to make an "Copy and Paste" ban list which is done when you implent it in the map, which will be on the site. AND, we need to have unbanning possibilites. See, no names should be listed, just one long, nice, JASS trigger. In this trigger would all the currently banned names be. Now, in the JASS trigger there will be a leave message when you get defeated, which directs you to the site. Now if they choose not to go there, it doesn't really matter. But on the site they can find out how and why they are banned. Possibly ask on "the forums", which is a must have. There is a security risk with not actually displaying the names. So, when you are banned, you get defeated at map start and directed to the site trough a text (no links or such). Now, Hivemind had a good point when they said that only respected people should be able to put or remove anyone on the Ban-list. So, what we need to do for this to actually be useful: 1. Get a site up, with "How to get banned", "JASS Ban-list" <- with how to use, a "File a complaint" and "Forums" as well as maybe "Staff memebers" and a newspage, aka "Home". 2. A staff off people authorized to put people on the list. These may be 20. Then people can file complaints against others and if enough (5 or more) complaints have been filed against a perticular person, he may get banned. 3. A way to easily get "un-banned" and learn your lesson, on the forums... 4. A crew :P. I'm in on this. Regards Dead-Inside |

Why not just make a list and everyone can dl it and read it and when they host a game and recognize someones name its just to kick him from the game... Or are you too lazy to do it the manually? :p |
