Data you can export and import variables. |

Ya can? Well hell then, should figure out how to make 1x1 maps with triggers so they quickly load. Copy and paste triggers, and then have file that's the exported variables.... Just put 'em both in a zip and you have a distributable dialog driven system ;) At the very least someone should start such a system through chat messages for voting/kicking, and distribute it so anybody can add to it. As for the fact that doing a dialogue system would be hard due to having to do it individually for every player...maybe someone could make an editing tool that generated the triggers repeatedly for you? |

Guest | Maybe you can help me then... If I make one dialog and show it to multiple players, how can I tell which one of them clicked a button? |

Ah you see my demo map is very boring. In fact it sucks ass...and quite frankly I want to be the first to do it in a quality map. |

Weaadar, saying that kind of stuff just makes you look like an ass. If you know how just post it ;) |
| 07-08-2002, 09:18 PM | #23 |
Yes I'll show it to anyone on Useast who messages me or is on irc chat chanel and asks about it thats the best I can do. Also I'll give my dilegent Don't fucking use this or I castrate you warning. |

Using 'Esc' key to bring up the dialog menu also pose another problem. If you were to use the dialog in the middle of a game, E.g to give $$$, a player is doing a upgrading/researching/training/building stuff, and the building is selected, pressing esc will cancel current action and bring up menu. Although there is events to detect unit doing upgrading/researching/training/building, how do we know whether the above action is not carried out? Added to that, ordering a unit command, using abilities also provide the cancel(or 'Esc') option. |

Well I'm saying this is for an RPG. Ussually you don't get many buildings in an RPG :þ Also this is the ONLY button you can press that we can detect and have an effect with... |
| 07-10-2002, 03:08 PM | #26 |
Actually you can detect which player clicked which button by making seperate dialogs for each player, it may take a bit longer, but it is a way of detecting which player picked what. :) |

Guest | Dataangel is right, weaaddar, saying you know how to do something but don't want anyone else using it does make you look like an ass. Sharing ideas and ways of doing things just makes the general quality of online maps better. Sure, being the first one to have a feature in your map is nice, but being able to play the maps of others without being bored/annoyed is even better. You're not going to have people like your map just because of your dialogue system, you have to have an entire quality package. Don't end up like microsoft. As much as people use their products, a lot of people hate their non-open-source guts. ;) |

Well otec is right thats how i did multiplayer. And DarkChrono if I did give you my map you'd be spending days confused becuase i use alot of custom text. And I don't want everyone copying me especially since the demo map shows how the heros work in my D&D map which is soon to be released...And I don't always have to justify myself I am willing to give it to you if you Go on IRC or if come on USEAST and ask me for it. Thats just asks that you actually care if you really wanna know how to do it... And none of my maps have been sup-par quality. And very few microsoft products are either. Also open source works both ways if I release it what prevents people from leaching it and not giving me credit..Nothing. |

Whoa weaadar, go actually read about what open source is and how the system of "giving credit" works before you try saying that again >_< Umm... ALL Microsoft products that I've ever used have been sub-par. They crash all the time. I hope your maps aren't similar. Oy ve, here you make it sound like you have some special revelation, and it just turns out you're doing the individual menus we were talking about to begin with.... so I have NO IDEA why you're concerned with getting credit for an idea everyone already has. Infact, we weren't even asking you to release your map, we just wanted to know how you solved the dialogues are a pain in the ass problem. You could just tell us. But oh wait, _you haven't solved that problem_, you just said you did :p |

Guest | I apologize for not being clear. I'm not saying you should distribute your map with the dialogue triggers in it. I'm saying that, if possible, it would be nice if you wrote out a tutorial or something on how to use dialogs instead of keeping such information to yourself. But I guess if I want to find out I'll have to figure it out myself or meet you on IRC. *shrug* |
