I read the first 2 and last 2 pages of this very long thread, but couldn't find info on this: Heavy Locker's GUI gives an option to "Show 'Map Lock' Options". Does this mean that whether or not you check the box, it will lock the map, and that checking the box only SHOWS the options, and is not needed to enable them? Because my map seems locked, whether or not I check that box. EDIT: (This is with HL 2.7, since 2.8 seems broken.) |

It has been quite some time now and I don´t remember whether or not it will lock the map based on the "Show 'Map Lock' Options". Probably it will always lock the map: if some files required by the World Editor get removed from the map it will no longer open on th WE. You should try Lord Vexorian´s Map optimizer instead. |

Farewell HeavyLocker is not being developed anymore. I lost the source code, I don´t have time for it (as I stated before) and I got pissed with Blizzard´s over-protective behavior regarding their games: if anything somehow threatens their "money-machines" they will sue the developers. I´ve never been bothered by them just because HL was free and never posed an actual threat but they´re hunting developers of BNET server-like emulators. I don´t like piracy and agree that they need to protect their work but I also think that some things can stay in an "open source" way. I will not develop tools for some ppl that break into your house to arest you, as I´ve been told. I always keep an eye here on WC3C and I´ll keep developing related things, such as the "Fast SFMPQ version" for example and my current project, a .NET Mpq Library wich I maybe (or maybe not) finish someday. Someone please close this thread. 14 Pages is long enough. |

Thanks for the tremendous amount of effort and knowledge you've contributed to the community through this project, BlacKDicK. |

Guest | I just wanted to say: Thank you BlackDick! Thank you for creating HL.... I have never used your program, but maps protected with HL have really teached me much about wc3 and programming!! Im against map-protecting, but also a speaker of it! Keep noobs out, teach the 'pros' something! (The 'noobs' can learn something else in the beginning!!) |

As BlacKDicK expressed in his farewell post I will close this thread now. Personally I used HL primarily for recompressing UMSWE, which enabled lower file sizes and shorter download times in turn. I was and I still am very grateful for this tool, which was unfortunately discontinued. Fortunately we have Lord Vexorians Map Optimizer which is capable of recompressing too. As for your attitude towards Blizzard I won't comment all too much. I only like to state that I'd also take any possible measures against people, who want to establish an alternative gaming service, which would have a negative impact on my own commercial service, if I were a company like Blizzard. I believe that Battle.net is a very good service. There is not a lot of other companies who offer comparable gaming services on a free basis (save for WoW of course, but thats another story) when you are a legitimate customer of the game. I hope that you finish your MPQ library for .NET as I believe .NET is the programming platform of the future (at least on the Windows platform). I also moved from Delphi to .NET and C# since I love the degree of power you get with that API. |
