Balthamos called it right, I got distracted by shiny new maps. But, I'm back to work now - no formal promises on when it's due out, but it IS due out.

Screenshots: I've got new skins, thanks to Balthamos' great efforts, and I'll show off the Gargoyles in action here in the next few days.

Thanks for the interest, guys! :foot:

So...Biflspud...Any problems? Are things still running smoothly? I feel inclined to produce a cough that would oddly sound like 'tangent' :bgrun: Could we hear or see a bit more of the project? emote_confused

Today's largely dedicated to full time map working (after breakfast). I'm attempting to finish up the quests, which I'll give you an example of:

All of the quests are triggered by random events, the crime events that Elisa reports. Once enough of a certain crime has transpired, a quest will start (usually with a cinematic). Once the quest has been initiated, a new random crime replaces the old one. Finally, once enough random crimes of the 2nd type have been initated, the finale to that quest opens up.

An example of the cinematics is in the screenshot series below. The first random crime is the abduction of civvies (who wander throughout Manhattan) by black ops vans, who convert the hapless victims into monsters. The first screenie explains why - Xanatos is trying to bioengineer his own gargoyles, and Dr. Anton Sevarius has been taking "shortcuts" by using humans to experiment upon.

Once that cinematic runs, Sevarius will start turning out the failed experiments - monsters - on the city. So, whenever that particular crime event is randomly generated, instead of a black ops van, monsters appear. The second screenshot you see (pardon the floating text, for some reason that stayed visible) is Xanatos cursing himself for allowing Sevarius to take it that far. The end result of this cinematic is Derek Maza, Eliza Maza's brother in the employ of Xanatos, getting injected with Sevarius' mutagen.

This opens up the quest where the Gargoyles confront Xanatos in Genutech Laboratories. Once there, Sevarius is killed, leaving Derek (now a mutant himself) no hope of regaining his humanity. The third screenshot shows a now mutated Derek Maza, who swears venegeance against the Gargoyles for leaving him like a monster.

The mutant clan (seen behind the cage) attacks the Gargoyles, finishing off this quest progression.

Sadly, no. I'm going to have to exclude Avalon. I might do something with a giant Oberon assaulting the Xanatos building, but the Avalon plot really only includes Goliath and Bronx from the Scotland clan. In order to make it fun for everybody else, I had to overlook a lot of the character specific plots, Avalon specifically.

The minor plot threads that I have in the works:
The Pack, Upgrades (where the Pack get turned into monsters)
Deadly Force, Protection (Elisa, as the narrator, isn't going to get shot, but Dracon's gang will make a power grab)
Metamorphosis (The mutants)
The Mirror (for no other reason then to make a lot of gargoyles)
Macbeth (somewhat diminished to an incidental villain)
Thailog (ditto), probably the Mutates as well
Oberon (possibly)
Coldstone (possibly)

And the major plots:
Awakenings (obviously)
City of Stone (I love that episode set)
Hunters Moon (Demona and Macbeth's finale, essentually)
The Quarrymen (show up once the city's gotten fearful of gargoyles)

Some of these are more completed than others; I'm attempting to finish up at least the minor plots this week; the major plots take a lot more finesse to pull off right (and I may need to add more to the map in order to make them go).

Eurh, I guess you have been working, sorry for doubting you Biflspud. Take your time though, no substitute for quality.

yeah coldstone! oh and the quarry men look pretty neat too. So i guess the fighting in the air will include a great deal of helicopters as well as mutants/mecha etc..?

8)) No, no, you were right to worry - so far, so good, though - I'm working on implementing the Pack (even built a little auditorium for 'em to fight ninjas in) at the moment. I'd like to get a beta out the door still, I just want to cram as much in as possible so that the feedback I get from the beta can be turned around into a final version.

Quarrymen: Are currently Paladin models, and they work just fine. They're NASTY in groups, which is, of course, how they attack.

As for fighting in the air, it's a mix. The biggest air fight is the Cyberbiotics Airship 1, it has an AI of sorts, and really requires that you attack in waves and move out when it kicks in its defensive array. Most other units are flight-capable, like the Gargoyles -- if you take to the air, they'll take to the air to follow you; if you land, they'll land too.

So far:
Flying only: Cyberbiotic Airship 1, Rabid Pigeons, Voidwalkers (a monster released by Genutech), Black Ops Chopper, News Chopper, Hurricaines (invulnerable, but merely pesky). With the exception of Hurricaines and pigeons, these are all ranged attackers, so they will attempt to dodge the melee gargoyles.

Flight capable: Steel Clan Robot, Steel Clan Xanatos, Quarryman 2nd Degree, Quarryman 3rd Degree, Upgraded Pack, Mutant Clan (Talon, Maggie, Fang and Claw), Lennox Macbeth, Demona

Oh - don't attack news choppers. News choppers should be fled at all cost. Trust me. ;)

I'm making real good progress on implementing the quests, and I'm ready to get some playability feedback on at least the first few linear quests (Awakenings, The Thrill of the Hunt, Enter Macbeth, *probably* The Mirror) as well as the random event quests (Metamorphosis, and one I made up). So, drum roll: I'm releasing a beta THIS SUNDAY! :ggani:

The deadline is more of an accountability thing for me than anything else, it will NOT be the final beta, but it'll be enough to at least show off what I'm doing and get some impressions, as well as error check the game in multiplayer.

I'd like, ideally, to play this with interested testers this Sunday on USEast, say, starting at 12:00 eastern?. Failing that, I could give you a copy and let you play with it by yourself... but that wouldn't really be a good test of how the game holds up in multiplayer.

The legalese: I do want to protect the map, mostly for file space concerns, not because I care that you swiped my oh-so-beautiful model tweaks. Also, I don't want an incomplete version floating away and spreading. I'll gladly share what I did later, but this version is for my benefit, mostly. :gsmile:

Obviously, I want this thing to get tested, so I'm not going to do anything obnoxious like ending the game if there's no player named Biflspud in it. Please, do play it, please do test it. All that I ask is:
1) Discourage spreading - it's not done yet, hence, not ready for prime time
2) Give me feedback! Big one there - I need feedback, you need your Gargoyles map fix. I'm giving you your hit, please give me mine. Either post here or PM me.

So, end result is that I'm going to be testing this Sunday with the Wc3c crowd only -- if the test goes well, I'll post the beta here for stragglers to playtest for me. If the text doesn't go well, then the beta will be a little later.

(pant) Ok. Calm down. It's my baby, it's not ready to fly just yet, but it is starting to flap.

Sure, man! Since you're in england, will 12:00 EST work for you? Either way, once I get a successful test run of it live, I'll post it here for single player testing - no need to beg. ;)

Edit: @ everybody who wants to test: Yes, yes! No need to even ask, just show up! If there's too many people then I'll simply set myself up as a DL host and let you guys mooch the map, then let one of you start up a game for everybody else who shows up to test it on Sunday.

Once I've gotten enough feedback, I'll make the changes recommended, and put the map up for those who missed out on Sunday's test.

Let's meet in Channel WC3C at 12 EST this Sunday 2/22
