When I watch a movie or a cinematic for that matter, its not always what I see, but how I feel about it when I'm watching it. If something is wrong... something odd... something that pulls me out of the moment or the mood, then something needs to be changed to make it better. First off, let me just say there is original work here. Thats saying a lot. Original works come far to seldom in a seeming style of cookie cutter ripoffs. It gets old to watch people copy each other and by watching this it feels so refreshing. Lots of things here I liked and some things I didn't. The opening scene with the castle towers and archers was really good. Nothing more needs to be said about it. It was perfect. The waterfall scene didn't work for me. Looking at it, I loved how it felt to be untouchable. Almost as if it was so condensed with wildlife and trees you couldn't even get back there with a weedwacker. The rocks seemed a bit repeated and they almost piled up on their side along the waterfall. Rocks jutting out sideways didn't work for me. Pillar scene was great. Looks like some satanical worshipers are gonna get busted. I loved that one. The panning shot of the country side had a few more problems with the camera and the terrain. The camera had this walleye effect. The kind of bowed looked when you pan the camera on a single point. The terrain looked like it could have used to smoothing in parts but the main thing was the town in the distance. The buildings were all at funny angles, stuck to the ground like refridgerator magnets to the side door. Not quite that bad, but you get the idea. It kinda goes back to the rock thing on the waterfall scene. The mountain scene with the castle was eye popping. I'm completely jealous of this one. That falling snow was just the right touch. The mountains were just spectacular. The shadow scene where everything is cast in a blackout line was awesome. A scene like that could fit itself in to almost any movie. It just captures the moment. Very powerful. Now we come around to the Temple. The construction of it was great. The whole scene was perfect showing the blade master meditating in front. The only thing that bugged me was the vising of the obelisks. They just kept cutting in and out from being overlapped. Oh well, its damn good never the less. World Tree Forts, very good. I saw that terrain shot also in Jana's thread. The underwater scene is the best and by far the most ground breaking technique I have seen in a cinematic. I just love that when what starts out as a innocent viewing of a ship in water and suddenly you are revealed to a whole hidden world that was hiding from your eyes. Last and perhaps least was the pillar temple. The construction of it was to repeated for the mind to accept its construction. Perhaps some arches might have helped out and sunlight effect shining through the open archways down inside would have really helped this out a lot. Inside the building I was surprised to see so much detail... all the statues and stuff laying around. If I was to score this out of 100, it would probably get about 98. If I was to compare to this other movies... there isn't much that could even touch it for originality. I hope this helps see it from another point of view. /me hoists coffee mug to pheonix-IV |

heh, i was the original one to pull off a working - playable underwater scene, somone in Murlocs Arise had the idea, but he couldnt get it to work well. Phe_VII simply took my idea and because it was a cinematic and only 1 angle was needed to be shown, meant that it could have the water moving effect. Btw, the point of the Cinematic is to show off the terrain, the main point of this map is so you can dive into it and rip out the various good ideas for use in maps. |

I just went to who posted the thread. But since you make it clear who's responsible, I changed the post to correctly reflect the credit. As for the purpose of the cinematic, I'm very well aware of what the purpose was thank you. It was all taken into consideration. All my comments are as true as I can be to the scenes without writing an entire book on them. This is why I had to cover the scenes ONE by ONE and could not sum up the movie in one general statement. |

Thx for those in detail comments Marksmann, Happy to hear you liked it. 98/100 . for a cinematic totaly without story that just got to be good. So now, As Im always looking to improve, what should I have done to get those 2 last points ? ;) |

Didn't you read the post? ..... It's just a cinematic to show-case original ideas that you can use for yourself, it just includes crazy stuff that pheonix cooked up in WE. It was never supposed to have a story, just cool terrain. Cubasis |

Very nice job!! I loved the terrain and more the ideas you had. I think the water-camera was really a great innovation you'll find in many cinematics to come. Still I wouldn't call the movie a cinematic, because it was more a terrain-show without story or something like this. Yet it was one of the best terraining-jobs I've ever seen. Though I had those elven-trees with stairs in one of my cinematics I have to admit that yours were much better. I also liked the building in the end very much and the silhouettes! By the way,.. you were inspired by EverQuest, weren't you? ;-) |
