actually no its just involve pathing blocker and remove the million tables ppl always use and also the terrain got a use after its done, in most challenge the terrain are beautiful but useless so all the hard work is roting in ur maps archive |

well, admitadly theyre no use after theyre done except for cinematics, but making them is the challengeing bit, not playing them, its why i create maps |

if u create map for no use than u really got time to lose... |

I agree with Gitlich. I only terrain when I actually come across the rare event of even having time to lose. Also, the terrain I make is for my personal entertainment and enjoyment, not someone else's. Also, if you create a map and take the time to make it playable and actually play it, then you got time to lose. |

well do as u wish... i respect ur choices, i dont make terrains to be proud of myself but to make ppl who are playing it happy, instead of just leaving those terrains rot in ur maps folder why not making it playable and realease it to dl for those who arent good or too lazy to make a hight quality terrain. |

Well I do release the maps I don't finish. Like that tree village, and the city, and all the maps from my newbie years (don't know where they went). |

yes its good but its need to be of some use to someone, which mean u cant put stuff that is ''unplayable'' or ppl wont dl it and do something wit it, but o well that will be my last post on that subject, need to get back on the challenge topic, toddy should do wat he wish since hes the maker of this challenge, playable or not, i dont really care Oh and also making a map beautiful and playable is a bigger challenge |

The reason why I make terrain is to make it look nice. Even though it might be "non-playable" it is a nice bit of eye-candy. You can put it in maps and have players look at it and admire your work even though they can't "play" on/with it. You could use it like in an rpg and block it off with something like monsters, trees, etc. Such as Blizzard's Rexxar RPG with the orc villages and things. Good terrain spices maps up and make it good rather than bland and boring. It is like a kind of art. You can't "play" with art you just look at it and admire the work. Making good terrain is kind of hard to do and takes time and skill. The "non-playable" terrain can be used in cinematics too. So technically its not useless. Making good terrain playable might take a bit more time because not only do you have to first make it you also have to make it playable using triggers, etc. By the way sorry if this was a bit off topic with the actual thread, but I had to have my say in it. |

Carebear think of it this way, a people make movies for people to watch. not to play. so by what you are saying movies serve no purpose? what about television? all things ment to watch and say, hmm thats cool. or that looks good. some people like myself couldnt trigger if their lives depended on it. dont ask why terrainers only terrain. why do some skinners only skin? or trigger people only do triggers? because they want to. thats the only explantion required. and with all the hits this forum has apparently non-playable maps DO serve a purpose. TO LOOK AT. do you plug a controller into Mona Lisa? ok ive ranted enough. |
