Guest | OK. Theres a couple of things missing from this thread that are important. Bxxx and Xxxx Entries: As it turns out you can have two spells that use the same Bxxx entry. You can create a new spell, rename it, change the icon graphic, change the spell values (mana, duration, etc), change the button position, change the description, make it a hero ability and add levels to it. What you can't do is 1) duplicate the Bxxx entry or 2) create a new one. You can edit the Bxxx entry, but it will also change the buff graphic for the original spell. So understand that whatever graphic effect is contained in the original Bxxx entry will occur with your new spell. No unit can have two spells with the same code: You can't have two spells on the same hero or unit that have the same code, regardless of what alias or uberalias you have assigned. Fortunately, some spells have similar effects. (ex: Water Elemental, Feral Spirit, Infernal) What you can implant to the .w3m file: With the release of the latest patches, you can now implant all the func, strings and .slk files from the units/ directory into your .w3m file without causing desynch on battle.net. To my knowledge, the only .txt or .slk you can not add is the miscdata.txt. If you do implant it, it will be ingnored in favor of the war3patch.mpq. This last part is especially confusing if you read some of the outdated posts that refer to desynch when you add certain files. Happy Spell Editing! |

Guest | I got a little problem with spell editing. I did a little test... First I extracted all recommened files via TechMPQ. Then I opened the abilitydata with a spelleditor and tried to modify Unholy Aura. I set targets to ground, air, debris, structure, enemy, neutral. After that I changed the value to -0.1, -0.2, -0.3 and -1.5, -3.0, -4.5. With TechMPQ I added the abilitydata into war3patch again and tested a map. But after 30% on loading screen, warcraft3 crashs cause of the abilitydata. When I added the file via mpq2k "mpq2k.exe a MAPNAME.w3m AbilityData.slk Units\AbilityData.slk" the map nearly crashed my computer few times.. it took the speed down to 0.. after 5 minutes waiting and pressing alt+tab like crazy i managed to get out, activate task manager and close it. Can someone help me? :( |

Guest | Well, first I can tell you that you can't target enemy units with an Aura. It's hardcoded into the spell that it's self and friendlies. Sucks, but that's the way it is. I suggest taking a look at my new tutorial to see if it answers any of your questions... http://wc3campaigns.com/forums/showt...?threadid=8896 |

Guest | Check that the 4 digit codes are different than existing spells in all the text and slk files. Ofcourse, leave the field marked "code" (in the slk) alone. This happened to me when I had one value matching another existing spell. |

Guest | For some reason when I attached the text and slk files to the map a bunch of times, it would do this. When I stared a clean map and attached the same files...it worked. Can't explain what happened. Ofcourse this was after I had checked all of the txt and slk files for errors. |

All the info on spell editing is great; I'm gonna experiment around with it one of these days(damn college always interrupting me). But, one topic I haven't seen addressed is the possibility of creating and adding additional spell graphics. Is it possible at all? I'm fairly capable with 3dsMax and it would be great fun to create new spell effects( or cinematic effects for that matter). If someone knows, I'd be really interested. |

Guest | I have a bit of a problem with my map's customs spells. When I upload the .txt files and the .slk file into my war3patch.mpq I can put the spell into my map and they work perfectly on my computer. However, when I upload the files into the map itself (so I can use it for Bnet) all the spells have a Tooltip Missing icon instead of the regular strings etc. After going through the map a few times (restarting it each time on Bnet, a private game) the spells suddenly showed the strings. It was after the first of second time, but for some reason it just fixed the whole thing. Anybody have any ideas? [Edit: One last thing, I have to restart the map everytime I play it on Bnet to see the spell strings, so it only fixes it temporarily.] |

I'm getting fairly good at editing spells now, thanks in large part to this tutorial.:ggani: I am having problems with one spell I am attempting to do, it's called Fire Spray. It is based off the Chain Lightining Spell, but instead of Lightining, it's supposed to shoot out fire, that jumps to multiple enemies. I've attempted this spell several times now, I change the effects, info etc and get everything into the map, and working, with one exception, the spell retains the chain lightining graphic!emote_sweat emote_confused emote_sweat This is something i'm not really understanding, as from what I've seen, the Far Seer's CL spell dosent have an extra [Bxxx]/[Axxx] entry, I changed all the graphics, icons, spell effects etc, but for some reason, every damn time the original CL graphics show up. Heres how it's set up; // Fire Spray [A0fs] Art=ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\BTNFireBolt.blp Researchart=ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\BTNFireBolt.blp Buttonpos=0,2 Researchbuttonpos=0,0 Effectsound=FireBallMissileDeathWav Missileart=Abilities\Weapons\RedDragonBreath\RedDragonMissile.mdl Missilespeed=1500 Effectart=Abilities\Weapons\RedDragonBreath\RedDragonMissile.mdl Targetart=Abilities\Weapons\Mortar\ScatterShotMissile.mdl Order=chainlightining Any one have any ideas as to what's causing this problem? Any help would be appriciated. :D |

I had this problem as well, it seemed the slk file I was editing, got corrupted. And the Editor was showing nothing in the spells listing, I had to delete my altered slk file, and put a copy of the original back in it's place. Once that was done, all the normal spells returned, but I had to redo all the lost work.:( This only happened when I was using the new spell editor program, when I changed from that, to using excel, I didn't have the problem anymore.emote_confused emote_sweat Hope this helps some.:ggani: |
