Yeah!!! that worked a treat, thanks Krakou. At first I converted the mdx to mdl and edited the tga file names and then converted the altered mdl file back to mdx. Then I imported it all into my map, but it didn't work so I thought I'd try importing the mdl file instead and that worked! GREAT!!!

So, if anyone wants their own uniquely named loading screen tga's convert the mdx to mdl via Yobgul's converter [found here] , edit the mdl and import that instead of the mdx...

Thanks again for you help Krakou

Oh and thanks to DolphinOnCrack for posting the original tutorial. It deserves thanks for putting in the effort, and it's a good tutorial.

Sorry, I'm babbling now. I'll get me coat...

Sorry, a wee correction to my previous post. You can use the mdx file, I must have done something wrong when I converted it back to mdx from mdl. My loading screen is working fine now with just the mdx and the 4 tga's imported... emote_sweat

Oh yeah, to use the mdl file you need to import the mdx file as well, so you may as well just use the mdx file!?! :bangH:

My intelligence level drops so low sometimes it makes me wonder if there is such a thing as a soul, I can't think how i could be aware of myself otherwise!! The soul's willing but the brain's not!

I'll be quiet now...

The memory accese error could be caused if you save the tga's below 24 bits. I tried importing saved as 16 bit and it crashed on me, bumped them up to 24 and no access error.

they need to be 32 bit tga's and they need an alpha channel. What I did was after extracting the tga's from the mpq file, I took my loading screen picture and cut it into 4 pieces and then just pasted those pieces into the 4 extracted tga's, that way they were already setup as 32 bit with an alpha channel.

They dont HAVE to be 32. I'm using 24 bits right now with no problem. At 32 are freaking huge anyway. Frankly I'm disapointed I cant use 16 bit.

Export the LoadingScreen##.tga's to the main warcraft 3 directory. then import them from there to your map, then in the import manager right click on each tga and select modify. in the pop up box tick the custom path box and delete everything before the LoadingScreen##.tga (the warcraft3imported\ part or whatever it is).
Then export the LoadingScreen.mdx to wherever you like and import it to your map, then in the main editor window select loading screen properties from the drop down menu and select the imported LoadingScreen.mdx from the imported drop down box.

That should sort out your black screen.
