This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. So many out there have started off thier young fraggin with the simple arrow keys, but after time they mature and develop and eventualy grow to love the highly functional wasd keys. Now most arrow lovers are those who have yet to embrace the beauty of the aswd keys, the rest are those who are to stubborn to try, or "say" they have tried both and don't like the fancy smancy aswd. One however cannot truely hold these poor souls at fault for thier mistake in choice, after all, man makes mistakes infinitely. But my solemn pleadge is that if any man lets down his bias for one week and uses the aswd with at least 2-3 hours of FPS playing a day, they will learn to love it. Now don't anyone here bother telling me that I have tried the aswd keys for a while and don't like them, Though there is always the miniscuel chance of it bieng true, likely it's a lie and I don't feel like reading possible lies. One question to end, a returical one if you will, how many people(incluing yourself) do you know who have used the aswd keys for years and then decided the arrows were better... visa versa? Try thinking about this question with no bias and see where it leaves your thoughts. With that I leave this topic never to read here again, but in hopes that the stubborn can change or the young develop.

Maybe just my view, but if you want to get lots of ppl to play, including newbies that don't play FPS games, I suggest you at least have the option for arrow keys, if not defaulted. Just my opinion, but it would be better for learners.

hmm so i take it that nothing can be done to let us bind our own controls? i assume this because no one has even given a reply to it...

believe me that would require a lot more tirggering that they prolly do not want to do so i guess that would be very low priority

i personally use wsad for quake because i dont have to move my fingers much and its a lot more comfortable because of few controls. but for games with more controls like half-life, dod, bf1942, etc. i use arrow keys. hers my normal config:

arrows: movement
shift: jump
ctrl: crouch
numpad 0: either prone or voice chat
delete: grenade or other often used button
enter: use
mouse1: fire
mouse2: secondary fire
mouse wheel: weapon change
pressing mouse wheel: reload

any other keys i need i either bind to insert, end, page down or to / \ /.

i dont like the wasd for more complicated games because all the keys are crammed together and i personally often cant feel the difference between them, or hit the wrong one because its right next to the right one when im frantic and need to hit a bunch of buttons fast.

btw the pinky roll down shift and crouch is really good for duckjumps in half-life

Making it so you could bind your own controls would be pretty simple actually, provided they're not using spell hotkeys, but rather the control program for these controls (which i think they are). The key binding could be integrated into the control app, which is fairly simple programming.

ok....DommIII the only reason people say arrow controls,is cuz they mite not have played FPS games, this is, after all an RTS game, and if those people who voted keys, would have EVER played any good FPS, they would know....

Don't assume that. I play UT 2003 frequently and use the arrow keys. People always claim that arrow key players never win, but that simply isn't the case. You lose because you suck or the other player is better.

good point draco. wasd controls or arrows dont determine lose/win. you lose because you suck, nothing more. you win because you are a "l33t d00d", nothing more :ggani:

wasd, but both would make most sense.

Draco, ok, i agree, its whatever you like best, but my point is that, i dont know that many people that like both FPS and RTS....Most of RTS players just dont play FPS, and they will probably like Arrow keys better. I used to use arrow keys back in the doom and wolfenstien erra! Now i just find wasd more comfortable!

I play FPS with arrows and surrounding keys. I like when there's a space between keys so you dont explode yourself by accident. What about middle mouse button? and what about scroll(good for switching weapon)?

WSAD keys all the way baby. I used arrow keys for a while, but once I switched to WSAD, it felt so much better.

W=Foward
S=Back
A=Strafe Left
D=Strafe Right
Shift = Jump
Ctrl = Duck
Space=Special
E=Use
R=Reload
F=Flashlight
Q=Gren2 . . . .ahhh too much TFC!

I would prefer wsad, but both would be nice.

Also, some mice don't have wheels, so 1,2,3,4 buttons for weapon selection would be nice alternatives.
