Using references is a BIG part of modelling! Use them very often because it takes a lot of work out of modelling. The better references you have, the easier the modelling will be. also, the thing about improving your poly management in low poly modelling isn't all about tech-specs. A big part if it is making use of your limit to the full amount. Sure a stronghold may be 2000 polies, and your chars are half the count, but could they be lower and still look as good? Take a look at the Frost Wyrm and how much detail it has for a low poly unit that probably uses slightly more than 1k polies. If you can, I suggest extracting and taking a look at Blizzard's models, and if you can, take a look at the wireframe models for the FF7 characters (I'm sure there are pics around the net). I'm sure taking a look at them will help you make your own models greatly. I know I wouldn't be nearly as decent a low-poly modeller as I am right now if I didn't take a look at Blizzard's models. It was from taking a look at how their models were built that I found out where I could shave off unneeded polies and lower my overall polycount, as well and maybe use those extra polies I shaved off for extra detail. Take a look at the way Blizzard's models make spikes and different ways to make hair, I'm sure you could lower the polycount for the head alone while still keeping the basic proportions. Also, for the swords I think you can get away with using a basic plane (2 triangles) and drawing a sword on the texture map. Take a look at the Blademaster, you'll see this is exactly how his sword is made. |

wow...guyz thx for da help.....ta da da dum!!!! yay im gonna make ff7 look like a baby wit dis mod :P....the fully grown up version.......lol jk cuz no matter wut yall do or any ff comez out ff7 will be the best rpg in the history of the world.....just makin a remake wit better graphix....well overwhelm da game cuz how it looks like is how its supposd to be....gonna go make the weps normal lenght......lol and u sayin i aint updatin......it took me 2 hours to shed off polys off of cloud and sephiroth.........(cuple of retries) |

Hey man, someone said this on an earlier reply, and it gave me an idea. Have you ever considered making Tifa's hair like the sorceress hai, a bunch of linked squares that flow together? You can fix that by texturing, and will help you a lot by saving polys. What do you think? BTW, your Sephiroth looks GREAT! -Edit- Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell. If you're going to make Aeris, you could look at the sorceress model for a reference, they look very similar. |

lol thx anywayz but nicolis already uwrapping...get ready to have a skin done in a cuple of days for all da models :Pi suck at unwraping...lol i unwrapped barret and wen i made a skin his mucles were on his armput his face was on top of his head an the creases for da jacket were all alligned.....:( |

trust me, Im not one to ask others for things should I be capable of helping myself and I have requested several times over the months if someone could make me a cloud strife model/skin... many maps have a wanna-be cloud(arthas) but none I've seen so far HAVE cloud and a few model makers I could find didn't know who he was... is it possible you would allow me to use your cloud model in my arena? credit WILL be given to you and other people that made that model, thank you and good luck with your maps =D |
