You're not really clear by the way:

What does that mean: "it doesn't" (ie: you tryed) or "you're not sure it will". And by "warcraft 3", you mean the game or the World Editor.

If you are able to play a W3M map with war3, you can just open it with W3Z map editor, edit the properties and it should/must work just fine again. If your map doesn't work after that, I really think it because it was corrupted before. I think that because my editor doesn't modify a lot of files inside the map and I can't see anything that could corrupt the modified ones (except the protection but it's its purpose!!! :) ).

Try to be more precise on what happen, like "does the map show up in the map list in war3", "does it start to load and crash after or while loading", "does it just send you back to the map menu instead of the loading screen", "what properties did you change", "did you modify camera bounds",...

Just curious, but how's progress coming along? I'm pretty new to map editing, and I can't wait for full functionality of your editor.

So far all I've been using your editor for is for creating larger maps, then going back and editing in WE. I have to manually remove the boundaries though (WE still keeps the "max" map size boundaries intact, and they can't be removed except in your editor), but at least it's functioning. I am able to edit, and save with no problem, otherwise.

The only problem I come across is when I try to edit map properties in the normal WE, it does a map-size check, realizes the map is too big, and won't let me go further without fixing it.

I know this is kind of irrelevant, but is there a simple fix by editing some code in the official WE by removing the check? That way people can still use your editor for pathing, map sizes, etc., yet still edit in 3D (which I prefer).

I don't know...just a thought.

I'm not sure there is one unfortuneately. Maybe with the the modified World Editor...? I didn't try.
About the progress, well, it doesn't progress much these days because I'm really busy with my private life but I'm also learning OpenGL so expect some 3D in the next beta/(final release?)...

If it's possibly gonna be the final version, forget the 3d stuff and make all of the tabs in the 'edit map properties' thing work (i.e. loading screen)

When? really hard to say. I didn't forget it but I'm really really busy with other stuff (private life stuff) and I can't find time working on W3Z editor. I'll try to find some but I got like 6 other projects going on and I got some friends (mainly girls) in real life who want to go out all the time so it's damn hard to manage my time and find time to work on W3Z.

Zepir, if you do ONE thing for the next version, make it so you can set a default directory instead of it always opening up in MyDocuments. :(

Of course I want it to always open in war3\maps....

Don't worry too much about that -old- tutorial. It was a tutorial for beta 4 and even if some stuff is still there, many things changed.
I'll try to find time to make a new one...

Zepir, it seems like you're not very active lately but hopefully you'll get this.

I have been doing a lot of custom terrain deformation lately in my maps, completely avoiding the cliff tool. I hate the cliff tool.

Anyway, what I end up having to do is manually paint no-walk areas on the slopes where units aren't able to walk (i.e., mountains, sides of ramps, etc.)

It's getting to the point where I'm spending a lot of time painting path maps. :)

Would it be possible to add a feature to your editor that would automagically generate no-walk pixels on spots with a slope exceeding a user defined value (e.g., 45 degrees)?

This would exceed awesomeness, and I would be greatly in your debt.

Alright! it could be better but it works not too bad.

It doesn't appear to do no-walk zones, Zepir!

What are my chance of you adding that? Will it help to beg? Send money? :)

I'm half serious. :) It would sooooooo awesome to get no-walk zones on slopes exceeding XXX degrees (user-definable).

I don't want money for several reasons. The first one is if you pay something, you're allowed to expect something from the one you paid. And I really don't have time right now to work enought for W3Z. It's not a motivation problem. I got so many things to do for my real life that I can't hardly find free time for codding other things than univ' things. By the way, I have one more project due for -hum!- 2weeks ago and I'll try to do it this week-end (a crypto project). Then, I got another project for february (a graphic animation project running under linux). I got a database presentation for next month also. I got a presentation next wednesday for my last java project. I also have to find a company that'd take me for at least 4 month. I also have to prepare some documents to try to go to Montreal University next year (Master degree or something similar). I got my university page to do. And I got some girls to date, some parties to go to, some friends to see, some pub to go to, some dance club to try, and so many other things to do! And I also have to follow some classes at the same time and I had some funerals in my familly too (and maybe some other are coming unfortuneately, bad year...). Doh! And I have some stuff I HAVE to read to!
Maybe I'm trying to do too many things at once but I think that's the way life is. I would feel beeing a zombie if I didn't live the way I do. Did I mention I also sleep and eat from times to times? ;-p
That's why I have hard time to come here and find time to work more on W3Z.
