Tauren Race

That would be brilliant if you also worked out how to get animations of the garrisoned tauren inside!

I'm definately all for the battering ram idea, but I wonder how it could look. I personally don't like the appearance of the age of empires battering rams. Perhaps it should not be covered? What do you guys think?

By the way, using a totem would be very cool. It is said in tauren lore that their totems are empowered by the Earth Mother, granting them increased strength. Having a battering-totem would probably work the same way.

Now, for another question (I'm so pleased we're getting so many opinions posted. Yippie!) Really, all of the Warcraft races consist of several races allied into a single faction. Any suggestions for what races might complement the tauren? No orcs, of course, as they have their own race. Perhaps wildkin or Mok'Nathal? Again, what do you think?

Thanks,

Two things;

One; I am sad, TiJiL, that you do not give me credit... many of those ideas you used came from my perfectly screwed-up head.

Two; Battering ram can be a Kodo beast, with a tauren on each side. The Totem swings freely above the Kodo's head, and the tauren on the sides pull it back and slam it forward. This would also make a hilarious death animation.

(Think about that one for a minute....)

For the ranged unit, why can't you just have two Kodos walking side-by-side? Catapult definitely seems more Tauren-y than a ballista, or even some kind of giant slingshot, but space shouldn't be an issue.

I have no idea what your talking about

These ideas seem strange and foreign to me so therefore they most be incredibly illogical (This is bad sarcasm people)

Why couldn't the Taurens just carry the log, god knows there strong enough

And what are you talking about with the two kodos for the ranged siege engine?

Anyway, I don't know if you've ever played a game called Lords of the Realm but I think our battering ram should be two taurens that use one arm to hold up a roof and another to swing the totem ram. (cost 4 food)

They can have tower shields, instead of roofs. Maybe 2 brawlers could be upgraded to make a ram like this?

Well, it seems that Bhav wishes for some recognition, so here it is:

In past projects with him, many times have we considered the use of tauren in one form or another. Thus, several of the ideas I have put forth in this thread were ones previously thought of by one of us. I, frankly, have lost track of which are which, so it matters little to me. Regardless, I henceforth thank and acknowledge any ideas used in this mod that he originally contrived.

Good enough for ya? Now that that's out of the way, I'm going to have to go with anti-hero on this one. No need to have a kodo beast involved with the ram at all. (Though I agree, that has enormous potential for hilarious death animations)

I agree, also, that they need tower shields. I don't know about having brawlers, though, seeing as they don't have weaponry at all. Perhaps combining two units together is a good idea, though.

Here's a new query: What sort of air units should the tauren have? I think, perhaps, a 'sacred wyvern' of some sort, and a tauren riding on a reptilian flying creature like a dragon or a good chimaera. (I mean like the flying chimaera is often portrayed in mythology, as a creature with the tail, wings, and necks of a dragon, the arms of a lion, the legs of a goat, and three heads. (A dragon, a lion, and a goat, of course)

What do you think?

well hang on here, arent chimera those with: dragon wings, lion head, a goat head that breath fire on his back and a snake or so for tail.

Lightning lizards are sorta sacred to the Tauren, much like Kodos.

That and Wyverns.

So there are two animals, you figure the rest out.

Mok Nathul..why not.

Yes, yes, TiJiL. Thanks for the sarcasm, and the recognition. I will attempt to convey my idea for the battering ram better, though I do think a couple of tauren would make more sense.

I shall use text! (Side View) Line sticking out is ram.

KODO...............ENEMY FORTRESS

It has handles that hang down, tauren astride the beast push forward.

As for the two kodos on a siege engine, I mean why not just have two kodo beasts side-by-side, a platform resting across both their backs, with the weapon upon the platform?

No problem, Bhav. Sarcasm available upon request at any time. (Free for you, since you're my friend)

Frostigt, you may be speaking of a chimaera form I do not know of, but below is a picture of what I refer to. Just looks cool, methinks.

Anyway, there's one possibility for a flying unit. Here's another:

Heavy Air Unit: Stone Drake - The Stone Drakes are a magical variant of the bronze dragons of the Kalimdor plains. Unbeknowst to most of the world, this thick-skinned, long-lived predator existed in small populations in the Stonetalon mountains. On a caravan bringing hides to Mulgore, a tauren by the name of Rund Kodoskin found one of the creatures in the process of consuming an enormous magnataur. He relayed the event to Cairne, who sent the Soul Messengers to commune with the creatures and seek to understand and perhaps ally with them. The stone drakes, impressed with the taurens' bravery and honor, agreed to safeguard their caravans from any who would wish to bring them down. The alliance between the creatures grew steadily stronger so that, by the time Thunder Bluff was being officially settled, the stone drakes had become a common sight, flying high above the fertile lands of Mulgore. The drakes normally keep to themselves, but will bring their great speed, strength, and magic to bear if the tauren are ever threatened...

Essentially, I think it would be cool to have the stone drake be an anti-air unit normally, but be able to land on the ground, allowing it to destroy buildings and units. While on the ground, its attack would be like a flamethrower, a continuous stream of some magic projectile.

What do you think?

i like the sound of that, how are the models and stuff doing?

yeah ur probably right bout the chimera....

any way, the stone drake, hes like a much larger bronze drake u said? Then he MUST be darker and u know.. bigger wings that like cover the land under in huge shadows

Pheonix-IV
Tauren Behemoth
A huge Tauren, big even by Tauren standards, who wields a huge tree. When in combat he can smash the tree down on enemies or throw it at buildings.

Theres ure ranged unit, a big fat Tauren chuckin logs at buildings :P

I might try skinning that stone drake if i get some time.

Btw, the typical ballista is 2 catapult arms, placed horozontally from each other on each side of a large block (this is the european version, not the greek version) its basicly 2 catapults placed on their sides and welded together, then the fireing arms are connected with hemp or rope of some kind.

quick go-over of the black dragon with a stone texture i made awhile ago, very basic, but its a nice skin none the less :P

no offense, but that doesn't look that great, but i guess you were just trying to get the basic idea for how it looks out into the open, so i wont tell you how to improve, unless the final skin will be based of off that skin, or will be that skin.
