It exists for sure, I have the file on my computer. The thing is it seems to only effect people who have a CD burner.

Luckilly I don't have one. :ggani:

Supposedly blizzard will be releasing an update or something soon, prob after christmas.

I lost my copy of Roc so i havent even bothered 2 update because i dont have the cd or key.i just insalled with a bogus key 4 now but this bettar b cleared by the time i get my new copy.

also u have the legal right to back up any cd-roms u own provided u have the origional copy (this actually goes 4 cartriage games and roms 2). Blizzard dosen't have the right 2 prevent this.

i've been asking around, about 30% of the people i've asked actually HAVE a strange unnamed file, they cant say if it was there before or not, and only about 5% of people have experianced trouble with RAM or CD Writers. I think their all getting worked up over absolutly nothing.

What an intelligent comment. I certainly hope you're not planning to become a lawyer my friend because you'd lose an awful lot of cases. Plus calling the opposition whores wouldn't go down too well, either.

In that case, they're still breaking the law. If they won't even talk to us about it, how can anyone except the people who made it know that it isn't a virus or trojan?
Oh yes, of course Blizzard intentionally installed a trojan on your computer! Yes, Blizzard. A respected game company is going to put a malicious program ON your computer which can be easily found. Please for the love of Betsy, think before you make accusations like that.

Great, but why are you telling me? I know what it is. I think these other people that are accusing Blizzard of putting Trojans on their computers are the ones that need the convincing. And while it may be shitly written, you seemed to have missed the point that this has not affected everyone.

Pheo, this time their virtual driver interferes with CD/RW and other virtual drives. It didn't do this before so there wasn't much need for concern.
And hence the clincher of this over-dramatised debate! As I mentioned before, this thing has been on your computer from the beginning. It's an UPDATE, not some newfangled thing to screw people over deliberately.

Naturally. But Blizzard did *not* do this on purpose. They aren't executing any rights that are beyond their legal bounds.

It appears that you may still be a little confused. It affects *some* users. It doesn't gobble up all your ram, but it may slow some processes down because the program isn't terminated properly at the end. That's it. If you want to think that Blizzard has turned all gay and want to discontinue supporting them, then that's your prerogative. Just make sure you're doing it with the right facts behind you.

Now this may all seem a bit like I'm some Blizzard fanboy, and I probably am a bit. But if this was any real cause for concern, if for some ridiculous reason Blizzard *had* put some malicious program on my computer, then I would be the first one to scream bloody murder. In this case though, it's nothing of the sort.

kharma, while this is the update of Securom, this does not mean that all it did it did before. That system driver was not there in former versions of Securom. It is a new trick it uses to find emulators and even that dirty trick already does not work for some emulators. In return it causes problems for a lot of people.
Blizzard should not have updated the copy protection on such an old game. Those things are nearly never problem free and this version of Securom is very new.
And messing around with system drivers that are not properly ended (it is even set to not accept to be ended) is something no mere game should do.

i have XP, i have warcraft III TFT 1.13, there is no .sys file in my temp directory, their isn't even any Securecom in my registery, i may have gotten wc3 the non-legal way, but i dont see any strange performance issues after i got 1.13, and ive ran wc3 alot since i updated, though i dont have a burner, so it might not be effecting me at all, there has been no slower running after updating, i guess i just got lucky. and wc3 wont be my last blizzard game, if anything, its far from it :)

ok first of all if this is true well that to bad. i don't think Blizzard would do something that would be illigal (im not saying this is illigal). it would really dumb. think of how much commany they have screwd because of WC3 TFT. they would love if this game would get kick lol. they would get sued real quick by ppl who hate blizz because they lost fans to ther lame game lol (old fans realized that WC3 TFT is better)

whoa WCIII installs Securecom? It didnt do that for me...

I agree 100% with kharma, and i think this thread is now pointless since nobody is going to be swayed one way or the other. Pity i'm not a mod but nevertheless, everyone try to follow these wise words of advice and leave this matter in the dust, 113 may have installed a strange program, but blizzard are fixing it. END OF STORY.

So what this file does is still a mystery? It seems like something to prevent piracy right? Anyone have problems with their modding tools that weren't erm... purchased?
