The Master Contest

Wow, no offense, but this has gone to crap. I think you need to maybe clear the thread and start it over with this season. It doesn't look like anyone but yoda even noticed it was actually up an running again. And unless I missed it, it looks like all we have for an unwrap is a low quality jpeg? I think you need to make a nice zip or rar with the working mdx (not meaning animated, just visable in game) and a basic tga unwrap. The skin is a major part of a model, make sure everyone knows this is going again and has the right stuff to enter with. It would be a shame to have the great concepts turn into just okay in game units :(

yeah i'll post it tomorrow... which oddly enough coincides with the deadline.

Hmm, correct me if I'm wrong, but it really doesn't matter what quality the unwrap he provided is - you're colouring over everything there, thus removing any funky pixellation that would have occurred, and you can save it in whatever format you wish (thus maintaining the quality of your skin).

That is kinda like saying, "Yes, the proofs for your work are bad, and no, that is not actually how it will be, but you get the idea," to a paying customer. I know no one is buying anything and this is all just what people do on the side, but it just really gets at me. Do people not have pride in what they do anymore?

Yes, a jpg works, but with much more trouble than is necessary. A wrap can turn out wrong, well I guess not wrong, but off, because if you start small and go big, points and distances are distorted, it's just like blowing up a 72dpi picture to print as a photo quality one (yes I am exagerating).

I guess the thing that just irks me the most is that this is an OFFICIAL contest of the forum and it is conducted this way. There is a reason this is a top forum, it is very high quality with good people, mods, and ideas. If this thread was used as an example to promote the site, no one would come. It is done half-assed now. The first contests had everything nice and set out, clear, understandable, etc., it has just gone WAY downhill. I guess I am more disapointed than angry, but people come on, TAKE PRIDE IN ALL THAT YOU DO. I know it is off subject, bwth, this is the reason America is going to shit, ask any foreigner (I'm not btw), this stuff starts at the bottom peeps, we have to fix this!

O.o I take plenty of pride in my work, and have no complaint skinning a "low quality jpeg." I guess I'm just that confident in my ability to work with the unwrap, and I know you're plenty good enough to handle it, as well. =)

I agree the contest has gone downhill, but with the forum changes everything was thrown out of wack, and now there aren't any points with which to reward the winners. Lord is also extremely busy designing the new layouts for the site (I believe he's the sole artist as far as that's concerned, but I may be wrong).

Wish the contest had the interest and energy it did when it first began, but the best we can hope for now is to finish it up gracefully, IMO. ^^

I personally thought the unwrap was great... everything was laid out nicely and all of it made sense... wait is that whats being discussed here? Besides, people definately knew about the contest because I started a thread in the skins gallery with a poll that said "Will you be entering in the Master Contest Warlock Season" then I had a picture of my partially finished entry.

if ive still got time ill post my entry later on today. whats the other prize besides points?

Nice job on those :) Both are well done. I would love to enter, but I find I have little time on the computer lately, mostly just enough to check the boards and my email :(

Sorry bout my last post too, it was a little over the top, I was drugged up from being sick and had a awful day on top of it. I don't take back what I said, but I do apologize for how I said it. I know you are doing your best Lord, and it sounds kind of like I was bashing you, which I really don't think I ment to do at the time. Anyway, don't want to make a really long post again, but I did want to say sorry for being rude in the last post and getting off topic.
