Guest | GJ your an excelent map makers you've out done everyother hero arena around. |

Guest | This map does lack something in my opinion, I highly recommend random/special events and more creep types (did someone suggest this before?), also have some custom tiles from other tilesets put into the arena (of course I do expect a reply that this is a beta version and you have not considered doing those, BUT later the things I suggest are mandatory). One more suggestion: instead of making a lot of heroes and each hero has 2 special skills/4, make less heroes and put at least 3/4 unique skills into each. That the Heroes will be much more enjoyed, and the players will not think there lacks custom skills (since the number of default skills outnumber custom skills) Why did I suggest this is because the last map of mine had a huge number of special skills (100++) and only the fact that there still were 100++ default/slightly edited skills, I got complaints that the map had too few custom skills, which pissed me off for a while. |

I also like the idea of having tons of heroes, because I liked the old arenas where you always had a choice for your personality. I want my arena to be more about items, they would be tons of items at the final version, each with an unique use. My arena has 25 creep types , to avoid distracting models and allow more heroes, they all use the Dragon spawn model , It used to have plenty of types, but they were way too distracting. I like my current terrain which uses other tiles, and I don't plan to change it at all. |

Guest | You are wrong here. It's not because of what you think, but those out there public gamers think. A good map is an original map of course, but needs something that make those ppl really enjoyed (not you the maker). Think about the majority who don't care nething but the map and if it pleases them or not. If you intend to keep many heroes, then a great number of custom abilities need to be made also. This is a comment that I got from one of my previous map (which sure had the equivalent hero system, or I can say better, except fewer heroes - bout 40): Quote:
I was completely pissed since the truth was there were more than imagined unique skills, but still had to accept that sad fact. People are getting tired of the game. Make it so they like it or die. This is somehow the downfall of map creation. The opinion I made here is completely neutral, I give it from my own experience, whether you accept it or not, up to you. |

I agree with Arcanister on this. When you have triggered abilities that do all sorts of neat tricks like having their power depend on the hero's primary attribute, and combine these with good old fashioned war3 skills, one of them is going to seem out of place. I'm not saying everything needs to be triggered and complex (though that wouldn't be a problem for you to do, if you chose to), I just feal that things must fit well together, and we are so used to standard war3 skills that they don't seem to fit well together with something new. But, anyway, this debate wasnt actually the purpose of this post. I have just tried your arena a bit, played it once in training mode. Then, when I tried to play it again, I got a fatal error shortly after the map had started (somewhat 5-10 seconds into the game) and my war3 closed down. I thought this was an isolated incident, because I get that very rarely when playing any map, but when I tried the next four times, I always got an error: if I was alone or with computer players, if I clicked anything or if I didn't. Here's the transcript of the last error I got (don't know if they were all the same): This application has encountered a critical error: FATAL ERROR! Program: c:\program files\warcraft III\war3.exe Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 001B:6F327EBC The instruction at '0x6F327EBC' referenced memory at '0x0BFA9598'. I need to know what was going on before the crash. Arcanister, I don't really care on what the people think, unless they have good reasons, this is not a roman circus to please everybody, I am not going to try to make custom skills only so people come and say that my map has custom skills. I do this for my enjoyment, either other people shall like the map or not, I am not going to make a map I don't like, I am not a solidary soul making games for the enjoyment of the public sacrificing myself, I make maps for me, and to make sure I like them, why? because it is my time. The only one that increases with attributes is the ultimate, every hero has an ultimate like that, If I want a frost hero, I might give him 2 at most frost spells, because I can use non triggered ones, which are faster in game. If the people is tired of the game, they shouldn't play it, I am not here to save the game or anything. |

Well, I didn't know it's the exactly same error whenever the game crashes. I really didn't think it would help, I just tried to supply as much information as possible, and so I did also say what was happening at the time: not much. The game crashed 5 times out of 6, every time except the first time, it always crashed after some time that seemed fixed, I'd say it was somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds, no matter if I selected a hero in that time or not, selected the time limit or not, chose a hero or not, played vs a computer player or not. The first time I played the map (the one time it worked), I played it in training mode as the hero with the druid of the claw model (and there was no Mannoroth? creep heroes went only to lvl 4 and then stopped coming?). That's all I know. |

I was just waiting for that reply. Because I did reply to those who complaint my work in that same way. But remember that, a multiplayer map is designed for many people, you can not use the fact you made this for yourself and your enjoyment only, because it means your work does not serve that purpose. |

I use it in LANs and many people seemed to enjoy it, still can't get whatever is happening to cause the crash, seems way too random Quote:
The crash apparentally isn't the same that I am having at home apparentally, because the one I have at home is really random, if it is true it is happening 5 or 10 seconds after , it could be a multiplayer bug or something, just a question, were you testing it in multplayer or single player? |
| 11-22-2004, 09:58 PM | #191 |
Oh, I was testing it in single player, forgot to mention. |

I just did another fresh test and it happened again. Single player, training mode, didn't click anything, just timed it, 10 seconds into the game it crashed. Maybe it's just my warcraft? Though I am able to play other maps without any problems. |

don't worry I believe you, this bug is great at hiding from me actually |

No, it happens always, just tried it with 5 computers. It didn't end at first, so I selected a duration, and then it crashed again, this time after 25 seconds (it didn't crash the moment I selected the timelimit, only shortly afterwards, so I don't know if that's connected.) Oh, I tried in multiplayer then, on a lan game with computers again, and now it seemed to work. So, thus far, I only got the error while playing in singleplayer, and I have gotein it there always except for the first time I played. It didin't crash on me yet in multiplayer, but I have only tried that once so far. |
