wait wait wait. Its not letting me add these files now. Ive got tons of these custom spells. Im using tech mpq, uploading the abilitydata.slk to my map. Now I can't find my custom spells anywhere under "Add hero abilities" in customize units. Do i have to add more files to the map?

I'm not exactly sure what you're missing, so I'll just list a bunch of things to watch out for:
1) To use your custom spell in the World Editor, make sure the slk and all the txt files are in a Units subfolder of your War3 installtion folder.
2) The World Editor loads from those files only when it starts up. So if you change any spells using my editor while the WE is running, you need to completely close and then restart the WE.
3) When you're ready to play your map, you must embed the slk and all the txt files into a Units subfolder in your map's w3m file AFTER you save your map in WE. The WE erases all custom-embedded files everytime it saves.

Well what im trying to say is, how do u actually input custom spells onto units, that arent saved over other spells. Normally I could just put entangling roots on a unit, then add the abilitydata to the map. When i open the map, the thing works fine. How do u put a custom spell on a unit, then get it to work. How would you do that without saving? And what I mean by custom spell is, something you make out of cntrl+n on your editor, not existing spells.

1) Close World Editor completely.
2) Copy slk and all txt files to Units subdirectory of War3 installation folder.
3) Use the spell editor to make new spells. Save changes.
4) Open the world editor and open your map.
5) Edit a unit's abilities. All built-in and custom abilities will appear in the list.
6) After picking the abilities for the units, save your map.
7) Close World Editor completely (it opens the map file as deny-write access).
8) Embed the slk and all txts into a subdirectory called Units in the map file itself.
9) Launch War3 and play your map.

HI. i already made my own spell and it works, but now i wanna change the "art" of the spell. --> i wanna change the art of the Blizzard to the art of the Starfall, because i need to make that when u select the Blizzard, and choose the site to cast it, Instead of show the waves of the blizzard, it will show the starfall and only will damage units in the blizzard Circle area. any 1 in here can tell me how to do that???

lordred,
i looked at the spell for bear form/meta and both have a change in the unit data from one to another i.e. bear form is like "edmm" to "edem" or something like that.

Well I got most of those done already. But what I'm having problems with is the actual embedding. I mean when you say,
"Embed the slk and all txts into a subdirectory called Units in the map file itself" it really doesn't explain what to do. How do you put those files in the map. Like how do u embed the units folder into your war3 map is what im asking.

1) Download and extract these files into a folder somwhere
http://redscull.com/storage/mpq.zip
2) In that folder you will find a batch file named embed.bat. Edit it, change the file name to match the name of your map, save it, then run it.
3) Play the map named \maps\play\MyMap

Hmmm, I dont think this program will work for me. It searches for the files under C:\ when i want it to search under D:\ cause thats where I got my war3 files, and basically on the other drives it crashes. Are there any other embeders?

That is a DOS program. I don't believe it looks for files anywhere; it just runs from the folder you put it in. I'm not aware of an embedder any simpler or more straight-forward than this.

But yes, there's tons of other embedder programs. Some work, some are buggy, and some are so poorly designed they may as well not work. Look for them in the downloads section of this or practically any War3 site.

Hey Lordred i've tried several spell editing programs and your does seem to be the simplest and esiest to use... although it doesn't seem to have ad many options as the convention exel way

after i created a simple damage spell with your program i went to add it to a hero in my map and all the hero abilities in the menu look like
___ _____
_____ ____(_____)
__ _______

etc... if i click on one it still comes up as the normal spell and works fine in-game but i can't figure out what i did wrong so that now i can't see the name (i couldn't find the name of the spell i amde so i don't even noe if that part worked either)

can you tell me what i did wrong/ and how i can fix it Thanks a bunch
