NEW custom trigger-spell driven AoS ready for beta!

Hello everyone,
Well, as luck would have it, I ran into Ultramagnetic and Sage on battle.net the other while they were testing their map! (I feel like such a... reporter, for some reason :P lol) Anyway, Ultramagnetic was kind enough to allow me a small sneak peak into some of the other heroes he and sage had cooked up for everyone, and all I have to say is: wow!

Ultramagnetic and Sage have managed to make a slew of very original and cool looking spells using a combination of JASS, and original ways of using existing Warcraft 3 graphics in ways one would never think to use them. One of my favorites was a spell belonging to a certain hero, who I am sure Ultra and Sage will eventually release to you in detail on this post at some point, but anyway, this hero did stuff you would only see in Iron Monkey / The Matrix / One of those Jackie Chan movies, and I was very impressed with how smoothly each spell was pulled off. Though this map is still in the testing stages almost every skill on all the heroes is trigger driven or a heavily modified / JASS version of some original skill. Most importantly of all though, none of the abilities had a dramatically visible effect on frame rate or lag whenever we tested it (though future testing with more people may yield different results.) Seriously though, some of these skills are comparable only to the triggering handiwork of Zoi, so it seems like 11th Hour and this map will be the hip thing to play after they are released. :)

The terrain on the map is interesting, and the Occulus feature is an interesting element that adds to the gameplay, and Ultramagnetic managed to make these "buffer" units not have too much of a drastic effect on gameplay so as to overbalance things for the side controlling the Occulus, and it is entirely possible for the other side to gain control of it if they just work togather with their heroes. Though I am not precisely sure about it, I was kinda thrown off by the "corridor" style of play, and by this I mean that there are a number of corridors / hallways which branch off from the main bases (or so it seems) which eventually meet with corridors branching off from the opposite base where your units will probably meet with theirs and fight. So it is kind of the opposite of what Tides of Blood has going on with their free and open terrain outside of the Undead and Allies' bases. Some of you may not mind this or may even like this after you play it, only time will tell.

The items on the map were not finished, so I will not comment on those, and although I did not have a chance to play as or against the Curseweaver, my friend who accompanied me into the game did play as the Illuminatus character described above, and I will simply say that the screenshot of his ultimate does not do it justice. :) You are all in for a special treat once this map is released, I assure you. Another interesting character was one Sage used in the second game we played, who had a unique "random effect spell" (or at least I think that is how ultra described it) which I thought looked like fun to play :) Hopefully Sage and Ultramagnetic will release him soon as well.
That is all I will say about this map though, since they are still in the stage of releasing information and would probably rather tell you themselves. Keep looking at this, everyone, it is sure to be one of the top AoS maps on the internet in the future!

Actually it only SEEMED that way Laz cause we were all fighting in the middle. By the towers on each side in the mid lane there's shortcuts to the side lane next to it that're only acessable by a certain team's heros (evil is left, and good is right. Rolling stone door, and ice gate respecticly) Making it easy to help reinforce that side if it gets into trouble.. So the sides are very easily acessable depending on what team you're on. So at any given point in the game one team has more control over one side of that map than that other one does, in a sense. We may or may not change this. But for now it adds an extra little element to gameplay and strategy, which is always a plus. ;)

Ah, alright, that is why I added (or so it seemed) to it, that was just what came to mind when I tried to recreate it in my head, and then I noticed that. :P Sorry.

BOOM! Hero #3!

Hero Type: Burning Blade

Proper Name(s): The Burning Blade

Description: A swift, agile ninja-master of the Tenchi Ikan Ryu clan who's discipline teaches them to harness the destructive nature of fire to strike at their foes with it's awesome power.

Concept: Hero Killer/Crowd Control

A neat thing about the burning blade is that with every skill of his you learn another part of his body, or his weapon, catches on fire. With each point you to put into each skill the flames grow hotter, and brighter.

Spells:

Blaze: The Burning Blade explodes in a rage of flame, leaving one point, only to appear in another a second later, leaving little but a trail of flame in his wake. Any enemy unit unfortunate enough to be caught in the blaze, gets burned.

A little ingame chatter between Sage, and me goes on while my Burning Blade blazes past his Infernal War Machine while they tussle over the Occulus with a couple random units.

The Burning Blade about to meet his demise near some Koz'Ak-Dramul towers. But why not take down a couple enemy units with him?

Ignite: A passive ability wherein the Burning Blade swings his sword with such force and speed it actually ignites the air on the way to it's intended target, causing a massive firey explosion that sets them on fire, making them take initial strike damage, and then damage every couple of seconds over time unil the flames die down.

Intensity: Focusing his concentration the Burning Blade uses the Ken-Po Tizume technique to raise his body temperature up to the point where it actually bursts into flames, and sets a fire so intense to the ground that the flames can even actually burn over snow and ice...

The flames left behind by intesity. This is the actual damage that's done by the spell. You really need to see it ingame to get the full effect. Those flames dont just stay in one place, they wander around and effect a nice sized area as they roam.

More Flames attemtping to deter an Infernal War Machine from taking out that tower.

Spontaneous Combustion (Ultimate): Agan the Tenchi Ikan Ryu master turns his body heat up. Only this time it's with such intensity that the heat causes any surronding enemy unit to sudden begin bursting into flames randomly. The Burning Blade however must stand completely still as this technique takes complete and total concentration.

A few random enemies combusting as they get just a little too close to the Burning Blade.

However, as you can see from this pic, even this close is too close when this powerfull spell is in effect.

Anyways, that's about it for now, but there's still much more to come!

Hey all. Just a quick note that this map has not fallen off the face of the earth. Right now we're heavy into the beta-testing phase. If you want to help test be on useast , in channel TBC. Look for either SageTheMage, or Me (TheDeeOhGee) in there... Or anybody else really that has the map, and you can help test....

My only request is that you DON'T host the map on bnet as it's nowhere near completion...

Fairly soon as well we'll be releasing a beta version on here too. And that's about it for now...

Now do your spells damage count for the playing casting the spell... And if so how do you make it count for that player?

For triggered damage? Well we try to avoid that like the plague when and where we can, BUT when we do need to do it Sage has devised a system that gives gold and exp to the casting player. But since it's his method I'll let him decide whether or not he wants to share it with the rest of the class. :)

Sage the Mage
Eh...I didn't necessarily devise a system, but I did modify one. There used to be a tutorial on how to gain xp via a trigger based spell...

Anyway, you basically check the hp of the unit, and if it would die from the spell, kill it with a unit owned by the caster instead of actually damaging it via triggers.
