Only difference is (aside from this custom AoS actually being GOOD) I been working on this since long before TFT came out, when you used to have to do spell editing the 'old fashioned' way... BUT, even back then I was determined. To do what you ask? Well basicly create the most heavily trigger-spell driven hero/AoS map out there. And now, I'm close veeery veeeeery close. Though really I should say 'we' because in the months that TFT's been released I took on a partner. So 12 heros, 2500 doodads, god knows how many variables, a bunch of neat little features like color-coded abilities, and about 42 trigger-spells later, we're just about ready to go into beta. ....and that's where YOU come in. Yeah YOU. We need testers, lots of them. We've only got the balance to go so far with just 1 hero v 1 hero. We also want feedback. Anything you can think of be it spells, heros, names, concepts, features, or whatever we will consider, and if it's cool, it'll show up in the map and you'll get credit for it. Over the next couple of days I'll be breaking down heros and spells, etc, along with the features that're already in place, complete with nice juicy, mouthwatering pics to go along with them. So prepare thyself! Something AWESOME is coming... And here's a little teaser to whet your whistle in the mean-time. Enjoy. -Ultra |

I'm the other guy :) Yeah, we have over 40 trigger based spells...There are a few moded stock spells...but there is nothing used that is completely stock. I'm going to do a description of the first hero....The format for them will be as follows: Hero Name, Proper Name(s), Description, Overall Concept, Spells - In order from left to right, with the last one being the ultimate. Screenshots will be given below the spell for each one. Hero Name: Illuminatus Proper Name(s): Omniax Lumido Description: A powerfull mage that uses his control over the very light that illuminates this world to disable and damage his opponents Concept: Anti-Melee/Offensive Caster Spells: Explosion: The caster creates an explosion (hence the name) at the target point that damages all units within range. Your basic AOE damager. http://home.comcast.net/~ultramagnetic/Explosion2.JPG Blinding Light: Summons an angel from above whose radiance temporarily blinds ranged attackers, preventing them from attacking. Guardian: Summons a being of pure energy to fly around you and attack any heroes within close range. http://home.comcast.net/~ultramagnetic/Guardian_1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~ultramagnetic/Guardian_2.jpg Starshine (Ultimate): The Illuminatus calls forth the power of the heavens, channeling the destructive forces of a nearby star through his very own body to expell pure concentrated light-energy at his enemies....I bet you are thinking Starfall right now. Actually, when casted, the Illuminatus periodically emits particles of light that attack random nearby enemy units. http://home.comcast.net/~ultramagnetic/Starshine5.JPG http://home.comcast.net/~ultramagnetic/Starshine6.JPG |

Now if only AoS style maps didn't suck so much I'd give you extra credit. But the screenshots of those abilities looks pretty good. I hope alot of them aren't basic ones, you select a unit, play sfx, deal damage type spells. |

Well Fyre alot of the spells ARE damage... But it's the way that we actually get to the damage that makes them fun and unique... However we do have alot of other nice little suprises in terms of spells too. I don't want to go into it too much right now... You'll see when we break down a couple more heros. The basic theme of the map is pretty simple. Your standard good vs evil type battle, where the 'good' in this case is a bunch of holy rollers that're trying to stop the 'bad', a well-ordered demon-worshiping religious sect, from gaining control of this mysterious force known only as The Occulus. It's been said to bestow awesome power upon whoever claims it as there own. So basicly back and forth in the middle of the map you fight for control of this thing. When one side does happen to gain control they get an extra 'bruiser' unit added to the side's spawns. (Voidwalks for the bad, Taruens for the good). These aren't really tide-turning units, BUT they make it that much harder to gain ground on your opponents when they're on the field. These brute units add an extra level of strategy to the map since they'll be very important to take down asap when they start spawning. So do you use that nuke or debuff on an enemy hero, or an enemy bruiser to help turn the tides in your favor? 'Well why fight anywhere but in the middle then?' you might be asking. I'll tell you why, MONEY!, that's why... Every so often during play, randomly, a caravan will get dropped off for each team and begin moving towards their base. It's very important that these survive, because when they make it home the entire team gets a 500 gold bonus... HOWEVER, if it gets killed before it makes it back safely 500 gold is DEDCUTED from the entire team's stash. And these caravans always spawn on the sides. So controling them is just as vital as controling the middle... And that's just two of the things we have planned. More features are on their way. Right now in beta those are the only two implimented, and you'll be catching glimpses of them in some upcomin screenshots that're on their way as we speak... So if you're interested in being a tester, let us know! Reply here or e-mail me at [email protected]. Until then... Here's a peek at the crystal mountains, world editor style Enjoy. -Ultra. Ultramagnetic, can you please tell me how you created that explosion spell? |
| 08-28-2003, 01:39 PM | #7 |
Sure, xisparkzix, BUT.... it's gonna haveta wait till after realease. This is an effect that's definately going to be unique to our map and I don't want it to suddenly pop up somewhere else before we have a chance to get credit for it, heh. :) |

I would like to be a beta tester as well :) Sage the Mage, you make some of the coolest damn spells I have ever seen, can't wait to see the map. Also, I'm running a mac, so I could give you feedback on any Evil Anti-Mac bugs in you're map. Aka the "Defeat Screen" at Map Inizilization. |

Hey, here I am again as promised ready to breakdown hero #2, but before I do here's a little pic of what happens when you piss the occulus off... ZAP! And now without any further adieu, I present to you... Hero Type: Koz'Ak-Dramul Curseweaver Proper Name(s): Gamaralt, Cyzmnitz Description: A powerfull high-priest of the Koz'Ak-Dramul, the demon-worshiping cult that's seeking to gain control of the Occulus. His magics allow him to curse enemy units, and even the ground they walk on, to disable, damage, and disorient them. Concept: Support Caster/Disabler... The combo-spell king. Spells: Negative Energy: The Curseweaver zaps an targeted unit with a blast of purple lightning. This bolt charges their body with negative energy that once dispeled damages them greatly. This dark force has regenerative properties to those who possess a black heart, and will heal the Curseweaver's allies once it's released from the intended target's body. Another shot of the intial bolt. The healing effect afterwards. More healing once it really gets goin' at LVL 3 Night Of The Living Dead:NOLD is a powerfull curse that's placed upon the land. While it's in effect, the brave souls who fought so galantly on the field of battle, and gave their llives for the cause will rise up from the grave as twisted, grim abominations of their former selves, little but slaves to the will of the Curseweaver until their bodies become too rotten and eventually fall apart. Any living unit that wanders too close to this curse will feel it's aura of undeath, and begin slowly dying themselves, losing hp over time. Misc info on this spell... It doesn't just raise corpses. They actually emerge from that summoning circle with the green flaming skull thing. You do need corpses around to make them. But when has their ever been a shortage of corpses in an AoS game? :) Neat thing about this spell is that it also has it's own little negative life regen aura who's effects go up with lvl. The higher the lvl, the more powerfull the corpses get too. In the first shot if you look up towards the top of the screen you can see two orange zombies duking it out. At lvl 2 you get ghouls, and at lvl 3, well you can see what you get a lvl 3. :) Mystic Deterioration: This time the Curseweaver places a terrible curse on an enemy unit. Once in place all units around it will begin to lose mana rapidly. In addition to that any enemy hero foolish enough to try and cast a spell in range of the ''cursed' unit will get damaged by a mysterious orb that begins floating over the head of it's ally. The damage (much like mana flare in the normal game) is equal to how much mana the spell costs. The damage only goes up to 100 at all levels, but the mana loss increases. No pics yet, sorry. :) Mass Hysteria (Ultimate): Shows an entire group of units a horrific vision of their own death. Faced with the grim reality the unit is left in an almost catatonic state of despair, severly hampering it's movement and attack speed, while at the same time giving it a 50% chance to miss an attack. Lasts 15 second for heros, and 30 for regular units. Very VERY nasty spell. :) aaaand. That's about it for now until we get s'more pics. Many more heros to come though over the next few days! Prepare thyself! Until then... Enjoy. -Ultra |
