The money ruin the fun part. Sure theres people doing this to show their skill since theyre quite unknow here. Showing name of authors are essential. I think most guys here will think they want me to make the best I can in my project so they can play a good rpg with ATB(new feature, thx to Pen²). They dont want me to stop working on herorpg(or delay) so I can get 1000$(in dream). So if your in a big project(hosted or not) right now, I suggest finishing it first. Question: How can you make a orc like campaigns when the triggers are locked? You mean something like the rise of krill? Question2: What about the time limit to register? Is there one? |

Ok, after the panel of judges, lets say 5 different campaigns are chosen. I am willing to bet a thousand USD that people will start asking friends (not egged at wc3c) to start voting for them. That, and the popularity contest, it just comes down to who knows the most people IRL and on wc3c. In the end, the unknown people have a serious disadvantage, no matter how hard you try to make this fair. Also, a group gets into the final Public poll. They see a campaign better then theirs. Do you really think they would really vote for the better campaign, as opposed to their own? I think they might, if there was no money involved. Money ruins everything. My 2 cents. |

a Few Questions (yes Ive been away for a long while) One, Since it wasnt answered the previous time from whoever asked Ill ask again. Can we include our own custom MPQ? 2. Do we have to reskin EVERYTHING? EX Villagers, Bears, and the other minor creeps? thanx in advance. |

Draco, I'm not involved with the details of the contest... not my area of responsibility for the site... ..however, I disagree with you about making a name for themselves... I think that until voting is complete, that the campaigns creators should be anonymous to all except the judges, hence promoting a totally fair and anonymous contest. The winner's names and details could be released AFTER the contest... however, that's jsut my personal opinion. |

Hmmm. :bgrun: No one answered my question so I'm asking again: if I started a mod a month ago (y'know, that's not like those major mods, like for example RotD, that are almost finished now) can I participate? Or if I can't, what should I do then? |
| 08-29-2003, 08:18 AM | #21 |
If you already started it a month ago, then no, you cannot enter that mod into this contest. You'd have to submit a different one for this contest. |

Of course there are going to be a few souls that utilise the monetary reward as their sole motivation. But honestly, who doesn't smile at the thought of it just a little? We aren't forcing anybody to drop their projects for the next four months to enter, it's entirely your own decision to participate. Nor are we trying to discriminate against anybody by starting it at this particular time - there simply isn't a time to start this that will satisfy everyone. There are several thousand people that will make the final votes on these - a fellow telling a few of his friends behind our back will not make a very large ripple, team private forums will not be out in the open obviously, and it's frivilous for us to think that we'll be able to keep everyone's mouth shut for a whole four months. We will, however, terminate the entries of anybody that we do discover breaching the terms of entry. The rule against advertising or promotion of your own campaign has been appended to the rules as has the prohibition of early releases to the public. I find it very sad that so many people are willing to dismiss the idea that users will vote for the popular people rather then the well-constructed campaigns. If a popular person makes a piece of poo, the only people that will still have their votes are the sycophants. Despite kdub's incredible cynicism towards this place, I'm surprised and empowered by his comments that people will see through their own fawning to choose the person who deserves to win. Registration has not yet opened. All outlying issues about team/campaign names being kept secretive will be addressed and resolved before that time, please have some faith :). Perhaps people would feel more comfortable if all team members were to sign a confidentiality agreement? At any rate, to answer questions: VooDooO: The rule for starting a new project is to make sure everyone is beginning on even ground. Otherwise any current work such as Return of the Dragon or Project Revolution would qualify. BoZo: There is no maximum campaign size. The only limit is how easily you can shuffle it to a place where the judges can access it. Custom MPQs are allowed. Villium: You can use any of the default stuff in Warcraft 3. If you want to use custom stuff, however, you must make it yourself. Registration - as mentioned by Stoned - will be open in a few days. This is simply a 'warmup' time where people can begin to meet up with people they may want to team up with. Siphon: You only need to reskin if you want something to be skinned differently. You don't need to redo every single default wc3 model. ~kharma |

what if a guy register 100+ account and vote for himself? i think the poll part should only worth 50% of the final score, and the other 50% is the score given by the judges. And for the people who are voting they should specify which part they like and why they like it etc... sorta like a review thing... just my 2 cents btw, is it ok to make a 1-man-project? i really want to try one by using the leisure time that i have... |

Yeah, thats a great idea. (Because I also thought about that :p) |

Im wondering how it can be annonimous when they sign up in the gathering forum. I think it too late. Humm... How many you select at the end for the final vote? 5? 10? Sure the judge vote will be more important. |
| 08-29-2003, 02:35 PM | #27 |
im sure that some sort of verification by email could be set up for the voting, would provide a slightly higher level of security. what i would like to see even more is somehow finding some qualified people to do all of the judging. dont know if that would be possible though. |

the vote should be by e-mail and IT MUST BE THE ONE YOU REGERISTERED WITH. You should also need 100 posts at least. This way you cant make new accounts and vote unless u spam 100 times... |

100 is high, ive only got 140 odd and ive been here quite some time, i just dont post all over the place to gain post count lol :bgrun: |

I think both the wild success of Nature's Call and the crash-and-burn release of Rise of Krill is proof that Warcraft players know a good mod when they see one. I'm not worried about a popularity contest - what I am worried about is the judges. What is needed is a panel with a broad spectrum of opinions - not an entire group that is really into one category, such as deep RPG gameplay, that would leave other campaigns that innovated on a level other then RPG gameplay out in the cold. |
