OK... First, I wasn't going to work on my Tree Village anymore tonight. Second, I wasn't going to take and post screenies tonight. However, I have, and am going to do both. My village was calling me, so I went. I feel that I have some pretty impressive stuff here (and this is unfinished work, mind you).

I will post more screenies of the (hopefully) finished product tomorrow, but here's some teasers... Heh.

Edit: Hooray! Finally. I had a ton of troubles getting these screenies to load (idk why, always been smooth sailing before). In the end, I had to make them .JPEGs to get them to load correctly... MEANING... The quality is lower than it should be :\ :( . However, it isn't TOO bad. Sorry for the inconvienence.

Thank you for your time.

Edit: Just some more info on what the finished product will be like... It will span across 5 down sized world trees (like the ones in the screenies). In my campaign it will be accessible from a cave exit on the top of a mountain :D . Enjoy!

Bur, yours all looks great... BUT... You need to finish it. There's almost no doodads up there, no festivites, NO PEOPLE! Villages consist of more than houses. Ohter than that though, your all looks really good. I like how you stacked a lot of buildings to make a kind of 'Grand Hall' look. It's neat.

I didn't have as much time today as I thought I would, and I won't have ANY tomorrow. If this is still going Thursday (I have no idea what day you guys normally start another one), than I will finish it and post the rest on Thursday.

As for right now, here is the next platform that I finished today.

Well. I can't add any stuff to the bottom till its all done, or else it would be really hard to select doodads with other stuff around it, as for people, I dunno how it works but, like i place them on the ground where the invisible platforms are but they don't pop up. Maybe I have to be in the game for them to pop up.

Same thing as with a bridge almost.

For the people however, what you are wanting on this terrain is incredible screenies, not a good game to take place on it. Make some mushroom doodad copies and make them look like various nightelf units (its what I did). Move em up, and wala! You are ready to take some damn good screenies.

Why wouldn't it be a good place to have a game on?
i've said this before, I have little respect for people who don't path there terrain. It's a part of terraining... if your not willing to do that it shows how you lack in terraining itself.

Bur, you know the funny thing is... I have never seen any of the terrains that you have posted on the WT threads in ANY maps that are being played solo or on B.net. Why waste your time pathing it if NO ONE will ever walk a unit across it? I know how to path, and the version of this village that will be in my campaign WILL be pathed (some stuff takes place in the village, so it has to be). But just because I CAN path it, doesn't mean I should.

Wazaa, that is a great tree village, it's much different than the others posted here (including mine). I especially like how you used a different tree to place the village on. I only see one major flaw in it, and it is the same flaw that Bur's tree village has. It has no life. There are no festivities or people. Put in some light posts, or benchs... Put some archers or something walking around. Make it look like you are look (through the screenshot) 2000 years into the past, into a fantasy land.

Again, these are just opinions... Like Burs (however he would probably perfer it to be pathed completely and have no one in it :P), it is meant to be constructive and in no way offensive.

Thank you for your time, Bur I hope I opened your eyes a bit to why I do things the way I do.

I just don't see how having units will improve the terrain. There not apart of the terrain. I mean I don't care if the screenshots look nice or not aslong as the terrain is shown in it, and even though you havn't seen any of my maps on b.net doesn't mean I havnt made them. Why even make the terrain itself if your not gonna be using it..
(I have an archive of all my stuff that I still might use, so none of what I do is a waste.)

As I said before... This is the weekly terrain thread, and no where in this thread do they ask for terrain that can be used in game. They simply want to see what you can do (a show-off thread of a sort). People and festivities spice up a terrain and make it look more real, more alive. A nice screen shot is the best way to SHOW what kind of terrain you do. Crappy screenshots give the terrain itself a crappier look. As for keeping them for later use in a map... I would simply build it over so it's not featured on a thread somewhere. So that (even if it's an imitation) it is still an original (that map is the only thing that's it's on).

Bur, I believe that what you need to do, is start creating terrain for people who need it... On campaigns and such. I am currently working on my own campaign, and terraining a 480x480 map for a guy that is planning on modifing it for his RPG. When you do work like this, than you should actually path it, and leave out units (they will be placed either ingame by the players, or by the creator who want's specific storyline units in various places).

However all of this is still my opinion. If you would rather show of your terrain as plainly and dully as possible, than by all means continue down the road your on. However if you want to show someone how good and life-like you can make an enviroment, than breathe some life into it.

Edit: Is there anything else you would care for me to elaborate on for you Bur? I'd be happy to help you see things from other views.

Were not enemies... We just disagree, I think we should disagree. So no need to make any angry comments. The way I see it is, all the stuff I work on, I do it for a reason, not just to show SS and see what others think. I want to use my terrain, and in some cases I do. I don't care if anyone else sees my terrain, its not what I'm making it for.
