Hey DJBnJack,
I was wondering if your program can save in paletted-blp format instead of JPG-blp format? I found that in some cases, wc3 won't take jpg blp.

Thanks,

No, the program can't save to paletted blp.

I have found that that is allmost never needed, what cases are we talking about? I'll give it a try ;)

Well, it's really strange. I took a WE GUI blp that was in paletted blp, saved it to tga, edited it in paintshop, saved it to tga, converted to JPG-BLP, and tried to use it as an interface icon. It was all black in the game.

I took a regular 64x64 icon of the water elemental which was in JPG-BLP, did my thing with paintshop, and saved it as JPG-BLP and the game took it fine.

All in all, I could've messed up the mask in the first case, but I tried it a few times and I don't think I did. It's really not a big deal. If you decide to give it a shot, put it at the bottom of your priority list .

Well... I don't have any priorities regarding Blp-editing at the moment... so if you can just point me at the 'precise' blp (the path and where I can see it in-game -- I don't play WarcraftIII too much),
I might take a look at it ;)

okay i finally got it to work!
here's how i did it:
First, i copied my entire Warcraft 3 folder onto my desktop
i used the image extractor 2 to convert the image to a jpeg.
then i edited the skin
then i saved it as a .blp on the desktop
i used winMPQ to open up the NEW war3.mpq and delete the skin i had chosen to edit
then i replaced the deleted skin with my new one
i then saved the new .mpq,
started up warcraft3.exe(in the new folder) and voila!:ggani:
EDIT: oh yeah i forgot this is for my campaign so the whole copying of the WC3 folder is what will be in the .zip when i release it.

here it is:
note the balaclava and camoflauge. anyone know how to change the team colored areas?
BTW in order to see it, copt and paste the URL into your browser.

I also noticed that Loading Screen Generic is in paletted BLP mode for some strange reason. The other campaign loading screens are all in JPG-BLP. Not that it matters much since I don't think there is a way to get it working over BNET.

The file is "ReplaceableTextures\WorldEditUI\Editor-Toolbar-Redo.blp". I extracted it, edited it in paintshop, injected into the .w3m using mpq2k named 'down.blp', used it as an unit's interface icon as 'down.blp'. It came out all black. However, it'll accept the non-edited blp just fine. A curly arrow appears in the game. Thinking about it again, it could be something totally nonrelated to paletted vs jpg.

>Well... I don't have any priorities regarding Blp-editing at the moment...

I just meant to say that if you have other things to do, get to them first. If for some reason you become really bored, then look at this issue :P.

Make sure the TGA is 24 bit, uncompressed. If you're using Paint Shop Pro, when you save, there will be an Options button on the Save As... dialogue.
