i allready gave kejos the idea to make the day/night indicator show wins, and is curently working on a skin to it... |
| 05-08-2004, 06:32 AM | #32 |
Do you know how to stop it from affecting the lighting though? i've never figured that bit out. If we could, the day/night cycle indicator would be very useful as an alternative to a multiboard. |

lol, a soo good trigger as kejos will know how, even me knows how.. |

TThe Idea guy here, with yet another idea, after thinking up the name and the teams, now i am thinking about this sinking thing. *not my idea but i have an idea to do with it* if a boat sinks u get a lifeboat and can sail back to land. with most of your crew. (This is not official, i just haven't seen Kejos on MSN in ages and said it here) |

Yeah sorry for being away, ive been on a consert with "Edugy" in upper parts of sweden. Uh this wind thing actually popped up in my mind while sailing... seriously, i though i was the first to do it. Anyways, you said something about wave emitters? Sounds cool if you could send! Haraldir: The idea sounds really fun to me, and i think this is a even more fun way of doing it: Maybe if you die, the screen blackout or simmilar (for a few sec). Then you are suddenly standing with your captain and crewman on the shore of the enemy island, and have to survive untill you get help! Now your team fleet will have you as a primary target of attacks, and will try to rescue you. They will send escorted transport ships toward you, and when they reach you you can go back to your base. I think this would be a fun mix of hero defence (if the enemy base finds you and send attackers) and still a way to disable a player when they die (like in dota, you just wait 1 min for your hero). If that idea gets voted down, i think we'll probably use yours instead! Any comments? |

Damn sorry, searched my computer and i realise that imust have lost the wave effect :( I got that so i could use the doodad ship (and ghost ship) as ships with proper effects. |

this sounds really sexy... the respect part really reminds me of GTA2, where you ahve those three respect meters that mesure your respect, and if you kill lots of one gang you gain trespect with another gang... so much fun!! how many races will this feature? i think the respect concept (wich i like most, i dont really like the sailing part.. >'<) would work best wth three races, like in GTA, kill one race and gain respect with one other race... thats cool. or will there be even more races? will there be alliances among diffrent races? will it be possible to CREATE alliances between races? can you ally with other players? are you allied with other players from the beginning? so many questiones... i must say the cannon fighting sounds sexy too, fighting at see in that way ^^, and moving in an arcade way sounds fres, but how will the battle system work then? will you have like, a fire button? i think that would be less boring then just attack automatically... liek use diffrent keys for diffrent attacks you are able to perform (like you press C, you fire cannons, press R you fire rifles, press eehm.. some button andn thrown out yoru anker, and ofcourse it needs buttons clickable by mouse as well) i liek the ebat sinking part, but lets just assume yopu get transported to an enemy island if you sink... and if you get KILLED while on that island.. what then?? you get transported back to your original neutral island, without ur boat? why not just get transported there from the beginning... or, have certain places you can activate, like in the tft orc campaighn, and if you sink or die you get transported there instead? that sounds better to me, actually... this sounds like it would be a blast to play... no ofence to LoA, but i think i will find this more fun becouse its more arcade like, i like to experiance action... just out of curiocity, how exactly will trading take place? can you buy stuff in one place, and then sell them somewhere else where the price is highest? can you 'own' places like farms and fisheries that produce stuff to trade? will you gain respect with a race and disrespect with another race, if you trade a lot with one race? if you are transporting merchandise, will the pirates try to spot you and try to destroy your ship, taking over your merchandise? if so, will you be able to practice piracy yourself? *takes a deep breath...* okay nuf said for now, or i'll just keep rambling on about stuffs.. ^^ just verry curiouse about this game!! oh one more thing... i think there should be 3 races that make war or alliances with eachother, pirates should be neutrals that make war with everyone and everyone makes war with them, and traders should be kinda neutral passive, that dont get attacked verry often, but do have to fight with pirates... and if you dont trade with a race, liek boycottt them, they will attack you and steal your merchandise as well... |

Yeah that idea is totally copied from GTA =) Quote:
Right now we have planned to have 2 big races (The royal fleet and the nordic VIKINGs on their snowy island) , neutral traders and pirates. As you said further down the text, the pirates will be "either WITH em, or AGAINST them". The other two races will give you status in the other one, not more complicated than that. Quote:
As there are only 2 races (so far!) they cant ally. We might have some other minor races (just small settlements that defend themself in the middle of the raging war). When you start, you are totally neutral and dont share sight with anybody. The normal way of starting will be to trade alittle between them (just once or twice) and then buy some weaponry so you can start fighting. Then you can ask the commander for work in their fleet, which gives you some starting status on that team. With that little status you can join in their fleets attack and probably kill some stuff. Quote:
Yes we are planning to do that. The ship will be non-selectable (to prevent you from steering with mouse) but instead, when you select the ship you will automaticaly select a hidden unit who looks like a ship (you wont notice tha difference). That ship will have dummy skills which fires the cannons different ways. I also though of that you have to PREPARE the different sides; you first use a skill that prepares the right side of the ship to fire, and then like 5-10 seconds later you can fire the cannons on that side (but no other). This would make battle alittle more tactical... Anchor is the only way of stopping the ship, mostly used in harbours (or when u go to toilet!). Quote:
Hmm that idea actually just popped up in my head while typing that post. I though that this "defend yourself untill you get picked up" would be a way to avoid loosing gold and stuff for returning. Maybe you could loose status on that team for letting youself be captured like that? And if you are strong enouf to survive untill they come, you keep your current status? Quote:
Nah the map isnt that big (epic, but the speed of the ships counter that) so its better that you get teleported to your base island and your ship is disabled for repairs for a few min. Quote:
Well im helping Alowan with some minor stuff in LoA=) Quote:
I got the trading idea of the old mac game "Escape Velocity" where you are a space ship. You buy wares like food, medical supplies, guns on one place where they are cheap at the moment, and then you sell them when the price go up somewhere else. The small trading settlements will allways have some good trade you can make. I also though of ILLEGAL trading, in which you have to avoid going to close to the ships in the different fleets, as they will spot your cargo (not realistic, but maybe fun gameplay?). The pirates allways attack if they see a ship that is weaker. But that still sounds like a fun idea that the pirates actually HUNT you while you carry expensive wares. And to your last question: Yes, you can become a pirate. To become a pirate you must attack the neutral traders and settlements, AND have low status in both the different races. Quote:
Thanks alot for those questions, i just like answering stuff =) |

WOOOT... "no offence to loa but..." LOL i dont think u can compare those 2 games, but i also think that more gonna play this.. (due to a huge number of lame peaple on battle.net, as it is right now they only host CRAP, and they need somthing whit a huge action, loa is more roleplay and action, this is taking a huger croud than loa, therefore i think it will be played more.) -Alowan P.S that dosest mean that loa aint gonna rule battle.net |
| 05-10-2004, 08:10 PM | #40 |
Hehe alowan... "All the people on b.net just host crap, so i think this is gonna be hosted more often".... lol i know u didnt mean it that way but.. thats how i red it :-D I think LoA will be hosted by the same ppl all the time, if you get me... ppl will want to keep evolving their characters! thats the fun thing with LoA! |
| 05-10-2004, 08:15 PM | #41 |
U got me wrong, what i meant.. Atm they host crap and other stuff, but in basic they want stuff whit action and fast gameplay, and most of that atm is crap (footman G.O.D and so on) so we need somthing good action out there, a tale untold... LoA will take longer time to get into, and to become good in, like i have played it since we started, and still my level is only 15... I think they cant be compared, since they are soo difrent. But a tale untold got kejos as triggerer, so wrong/bad is not an option 4 this mod.. -Alowan |

The idea guys back with a few more ideas: AMMO: use it, start off with it, don't use it automatically. Used in pistol and cannons. SLAVERY: If caught by the enemy, you might not just DIE, but simply be caught and forced to either fight for them or workfor them, you can also steal one of your enemy's crewmen after defeating them. Forcing them to be on your side. |

shouldnt work on heros though... lets say your ship is captured/distroyed, the enemie who destroyed you takes: A: the merchendise you might be carrying B: one of your crewmembers... wich should be picked randomly, to prevent them from taking the best dudes every time. C: if the ships transport gold...lets just say you have a treasure box at your base, a stash, in wich you keep gold. you can buy stuff direcly from the treasure, but lewted gold or gold earned by variouse things should be brought back to the stash. if not brought back to the stash, it can be lewted. |

Yeah alowan now i get u =) I like that ammo idea; and when i red about that i got another crazy idea from Escape Velocity again: When a ship reach, lets say 10% of their hp, they get "disabled". Disabled ships cannot move or such, just float around. Enemy ships can now board it by movnig close and using a skill called board to attack. If the attackers win the battle, they can take slaves and gold (and to prevent taking it all, you make up some story like the crewman blow up the ship to prevent the enemy from capturing them). That idea could be mixed someway with your slavery i think, would be awsom :) And that thing with stash is also cool, ill change the first post with all new stuff and changes tomorrow (gotta sleep now)! |
