Are you on drugs? Seriously, "Advaned World Editor" implies a program. Throwing out SLKs like that is not any kind of a program at all. Its more like an SDK, not a developement package, just an add on. Frankly I find it nothing less then disturbing that a developement communty would allow such an add to be called an advanced version of the editor. It gets the younger generation of developers screwed up with terms and program layout. If people would stop taking short cuts and naming things inappraiotely, we might actually see more developers grow up with good habbits of developement and actually plan ahead for program design. I mean who here ACTUALLY uses a flow chart or a spread sheet to maintain design definitions here? Besides, I admit cookie is doing a good job with other projects, but as far as SLKs are concerned, my last three revisions that I've been using for my map already uses lots older beta spells and units then I've seen in any recent addition, but the few times I post the link up to it, I call it what it is; its an "SLK Developement Pack" |

Knighthammer: Quit your bitchin! :p Dude, all you're really arguing about is the fact that it's not a .exe, but is instead some slk files that override the normal ones in the mpq. If you REALLY REALLY REALLY want an .exe for no apparent reason but your own arbitrary whims, go get BlackDick's WE-Enhanced. It's advanced because it adds fields that normal mappers couldn't utilize (many don't know how to find the path/filename of an icon or model and change the field, etc.), or rather, it changes them so they're more useful, and it unveils the easter egg units and makes them placeable. Not only that, but Cookie has said he's going to release one for modders that'll have alot more options. So shutup and actually try using it and quit this "it's an insult" bullshit. |

Guest | I dont like the fact that in the editor you have to write the string for the picture of the unit in the unit editor........ can u change dat? |

Guest | DataAngle, I'm not bitching. I am applauding Cookies work as well as other developers out there, but I seriously wanna see some consistency out of the mod community with what we are willing to accept as an "Advanced Editor". It's nieve to think this is anything better then a SDK. Given it gave us lots more options, but its still not an advanced anything. Lets keep our terms straight! I mean if someone walks around calling their computer a "printer", wouldn't you wanna smack them for using the wrong term? At the very least would you not attempt to correct? I know some people here and on Battle.net's forums would probably call them an idiot to their faces. I'm using the other approach of trying to correct the term used before it snowballs. |

Your printer-computer analogy doesn't make any goddamned sense. A computer and a printer are relatively well defined things. World Editor vs. Advanced World Editor is not. Why in the world should anyone care about this distinction? It's an independent title. Furthermore, it's absolutely ridiculous to claim that developers would in some way be more motivated or come out with more projects if it weren't for this editor being Advanced. Repeat it outloud several times or however long it takes for the absurdity to hit you. Besides, here you are claiming the editor isn't "Advanced" but you haven't even given a definition of what "Advanced" is. So it might as well remain as arbitrary as it was before. BTW, the reason those things are strings that you type in are so you can use ones that aren't the standard units. To easily use a standard unit one, go to the standard unit, and copy and paste its string to your custom unit. Scope: The only way to get units to sell items I know of is to base them off the goblin merchant building, and I think that'll only work for buildings cuz there's no movement speed field. |
