Spell Ed - Handles SLK and Func/Strings - SS Inside

Fiery,
You should be able to load custom icons just fine, actually. But you have to make sure the icons you add to the folder are the right size, are valid JPGs (this is hard to test because programs like IE are overly forgiving), and follow the exact proper naming conventions. And obviously you'll have to embed your new icons in your map too (with disabled versions).

As for the NeutralAbilityStrings.txt issue, yes, I put all the strings entries in that file instead of the proper files. This was originally a hack to fix a bug that I couldn't find. Now I've decided to leave it that way because you don't technically have to add the other strings files to your maps if you didn't manually make some custom changes. And long-time users are probably just used to it now.

I am perfectly fine with the string data being in one file, it saves time on our part. It was just confusing at first. Thanks to everyone for clearing it up.

There is also another problem I seem to be having though.

I posted about it on a new topic cause I am not sure your program is related:

I got the icons working, they must not have been completely valid jpg files, all I did was open each jpg in photoshop and resave, and it corrected all of them.

Also, I love having all strings in NuetralAbilityStrings.txt as it decreases the number and size of files I must import in. Great Editor Lordred!

I tip my hat to you sir.

I cant get my custom icons working wither tho. Guess ill read your post more carefully, and try again. I tried looking for it, but when i was scrolling down the screen, an error window said, "canvas does not allow drawing" so im just like "okay" and quit.

The only other problem i found, was that i was working on a file that i had started in excel, and all the data showed up fine, but the art data drew up a big blank. Im too lazy to redo everything, cuz i had like 9 sets of hero spells, and i doubt theres any way to implant it to work, so i guess ill jsut mix and match shit which will confuse me, but i had everything in the human txt files, so i should be just fine.

Once again, i tip my hat to you sir. :D

I wouldnt say it is a good spell editor... this editor has many bugs that should be fixed 1) is the deletion of a created spell (it is still there in the txt files) 2) hard to change spell names if you decide not use 2 use the spell editor. plus many more... id rather use the slk editing method.:(

Excellent editor:D
Just 1 minor possible bug I noticed, the check dep. doesn't always works.
So if I were to set my Shaman master researched along with my skill description I'd sometimes get no "main skill" description at all or sometime just some garbled up gibberish.

Well, Your editor is good and all, but you should add a FAQ or guide how to make spells. I know, I'm a noob, but I've come far with this editor. The error i keep getting is that guy's face and "Tooltip Missing" on all of my skills. I have done as the editor says... I reinserted the changed *func and *string with winMPQ into the map but it didn't work. How?? Why??

You should make a version, Lordred, where we can edit original spell data. I recently wanted to make it so my spells had the same changes as Blizzard made with v1.06, but to edit original spells, I needed to go directly into the .slk. Now do you know how lazy I am :p.

Anyways, I think that would be a change that would be cool as an option even, so beginners don't screw up. Well, Later.

Hi I still have a problem with the Icons and descriptions.
I did everything exactly as you said (Imported all the files correctly)
But when I'm in game all my skills have no descriptions and the icons are all the face of that guy
any idea what I'm doing wrong?

ok I got the first problem solved.
but now another one showed up.
The icons and descriptions work fine but when I want to learn one of the new skills nothing happens. Well actually the skill points I want to put in are gone but I don't get the skill.
so when I click on a skill 10 times its still just the level 1 skill in the learn skill tab, all my skill points are gone and I didn't learn anything.
so whats that now?

How did you do? It seems the creator nor anyone else is reading this...

For sum reason i cannot get my new spells that I create to show up in the world editor. I've blamed numerous things (Mainly blizzard, and my computer but i know that isn't really a reasonable accusation) but the most coincidental one was the fact that the Spell ID number thing reached up to A105 and then after that none would work. Everything is correctly imputed intot he spell editor, but it just won't show up on the World Editor. I've tried everything that I could think of, can anyone help me?

well to get em in the world editor everything you need to do is put all those files in the Warcraft 3\Units\
directory.

check if you got all of em in there.
NeutralAbilityFunc.txt
NeutralAbilityStrings.txt

HumanAbilityFunc.txt
HumanAbilityStrings.txt

NightElfAbilityFunc.txt
NightElfAbilityStrings.txt

OrcAbilityFunc.txt
OrcAbilityStrings.txt

UndeadAbilityFunc.txt
UndeadAbilityStrings.txt

Abilitydata.slk

I also think spellnamedata.txt must be in there which is generated by the editor or something.
Anyway, if you really got all the files I mentioned in the units directory and you can see the new ability you created in the spell editor something must be seriously wrong and I have no idea what that could be.
You could check the file NeutralAbilityStrings.txt, scroll to the bottom and see if there are new entries for the skills you made.

I wasn't missing any files, plus i have 2 extra .txt files (the two item string and func.txt files) but i wanna see if the spelldataname.txt file might help. I don't understand, it would load up all my other spells but these new ones????
