It's definitely a nice system and there is really much potential in it. I have thinked a way that could make it different and probaply better.

Basically your char is made by what items he have in hes inventory, spells or armor/weapons. if you have spells you are a mage. but if you have weapons/armor you are a warrior.

So it based of what you find: Spells or items on mobs, thats how your char is gonna be. So if you find a "fireball lvl 1 spell" you are able to cast that spell. So you can have 6 spells/items in your backpack. Ofcause there is a global cooldown. So if your char have "lightning spell lvl 2" and "healing lvl 3" and "a tunic that give you 10ac and 5 int" you are "Tank Priest Class". The hitter lvl you are the bigger chance there is that mob drops better spells or items (Cold arrow lvl 4 dam 15-20 etc). You will also be able to encounter special properties when you use weapons and armor such as "critical strike, bash, lifesteal or auras"

Another example: a warrior would be wearing alot of armor and a weapon, and the armor gives him str. that way you can define your spells and class as you wish. Though it would require to find such things to master your skills. Also your limited to only ONE of the same item (sword/weapon or same spell etc.) You will gain same amount of str, int, and dex pr lvl.

In a shop and you will then be able to put points into str, dex, int pr lvl. from 1 lumber pr lvl you can buy stats from a shop. That how you gonna define your stats. And you have still room for 5 hero abilities and 2 custom spells. I have thinked to make the somekind of specialization in caster, archer or warrior. I think this system is going to be really dynamic.

Once again, another fascinating and plausible system that I would love to try out- but ultimately really a different system from the one at hand. Not to complain; quite the opposite: I love all the creativity this is bringing out. I just want to encourage you, Brugsy or anyone else, to try this out for yourself. It could be a very cool system. It's just so fundamentally different from the system at work here that I wouldn't want to replace this system.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is... I don't think it should be worked into this system, but not because it isn't a great idea. :D

great map I love it. Boss is hard as crzy though I die 1 time because I gota read the little funny quote that comes up when I enter the room, then again right after I cast my double fire material spell on him, then I got smart and equiped the 2 10%death items and killd him but he respawnd by the pallies outside of town lol and killd them 100+times it was funny and I was wondering how I could get back to help them. so I did dark materia on myself and killd him like 3more times till I relized that he droppd the item right there already. The aoe spell dont really seem to handy though, I almost never used it. The middle 1 is the best and the top basicly I just use to heal, but when the necros were on the top I put double fire so I could kill them ez with direct dmg. Fun map with the cooest idea ever, I just finishd a map of mine so maybe ill make a new map using this idea, im horrible at terrain though :(
