*Shadowfax suddenly gets a crappy Italian accent* I go where I'm a-needed! Quote:
*Accent fades away* One sub-plot that I've always wondered about is what happens to the Dwarven rings of power. The Elves go into hiding and retain theirs from Sauron's grasp, the Rings of Men turn the Kings who carried them into Ringwraiths. The fate of the Dwarven rings is revealed in the Silmarillion, which I haven't read in several years. Either Sauron manages to take them (because the dwarves aren't so easily won over), they are destroyed, or they were lost in one of the vast hoards of the Dwarf Lords. I can't remember what happened. If they're simply missing, an interesting story could arise about the fate of the Dwarven Rings. They too, like the One Ring, could feel some sense of urgency in the air and manage to "find" some new owners who become ensnared in Sauron's lingering trap and become fearsome, wraith-like beings (although not true Ringwraiths) and start wreaking havoc that your main character must stop, with a little grace from good King Elessar. It would be the details that would make the campaign truly great. New models for heroes, appropriate building models for the various areas of Middle Earth, new skins. I could imagine a chamber of artifacts within Minas Tirith that houses relics from the War of the Ring, perhaps a great pedestal proudly displaying Glamdring in a shaft of light, suspended in midair by some mystical force. Areas would still be re-building after such an exhaustive war, so you could depict that . . . You could even visit Mordor and see if it has fallen into a state of further decay, or if it's begun to reform itself into something not quite so evil. If your character goes to the Shire, it may be permissible to have the hobbits preparing some manner of party in honor of "those remarkable Bagginses" or something to that effect, or celebrating the anniversary of the Scouring of the Shire. You could have your character traverse the deserted, overgrown shell of Rivendell which may now be inhabited by god only knows what. I'll be interested to see what you come up with, and I'll offer up my terraining services should you decide to continue. -Bejoty (the anchor of sanity) |

Whoa! someone needs to take their pills... Try to make a less-important but interesting story in the LOTR world instead of ruining J.R.R Tolk's work... You could always be somewhat creative and make your own fantasy world. Its actually quite simple to do, but be creative. |

Nice post Shadow(s) <--both of you What the hell is a shit list? REQUEST: can someone lock this? `s |
| 02-05-2004, 01:08 PM | #54 |
a shit list is like a hit list, only it has nine characters. |
| 02-05-2004, 02:33 PM | #55 |
Why would anyone lock it? Just because some people are getting angry shouldn't mean the whole thing is gone. About the seven rings, what happened to those Sauron had? And if they are gone, you could say the dragons who ingested the others were imbued with their powers. Or that the rings, being as powerful as they are, can't be destroyed by that, so they must be lodged within the dragons (kill them and take the rings). |

x3 I mean, when I finished Final Fantasy VIII, I wasn't pissed off about Ultimecia's multiple forms. SuperPeon could treat it that way, in a sense. If he wanted to, he could say that the ring gave him Sauron his body, the mace gave him his strength, his helmet gave him an unerring will, and his armour gives him thoughness. Except to his fingers.. his one weakness.. o_o Regardless, I'm gonna unsubscribe from the thread. z_z |

i thought smaug was the last dragon? who are the others? |
| 02-05-2004, 08:53 PM | #59 |
he was the last, as far as i know, so then the rings couldn't be destroyed that way. |

So there are still four Rings of Power unaccounted for... there's all you need for your object, SuperPeon. |
