the best way to end this mess is to auto sign reps, that'll put an end to EVERYTHING if not, mostly everything |

youll probably just end up getting vengance repping. so even valid -ve reps wont be given. everyone will be too scared to give reps to anyone. unless that person has a low rep. so the only poeple getting low reps would be the people with low reps. horrible spiral of decay kinda thing |

not nessacarily true, if they have a good reason (which i hope they will imply a minimum text limit) then they will say it, and if they get revenge (spam and such things) they're text will be... (a. False (b. Spam, not if it were a GOOD reason for a bad rep then it would be like ...'stop flaming members!'... or something like that (btw armel, couldnt help but quote your saying) |

The whole rep system sucks. People are much more likely to give a negative rep for a bad post than a positive rep for a good post. Most people, when reading a good/helpful post are just like "Yeah, I agree". Whereas when most people read a post they don't like or feel the post is insulting they seek out a way to damage the poster of the message. And look, heres a nice rep system to abuse. Really, you'll get more neg reps than positive reps even if you mostly make positive and/or neutral posts. One way to make the rep system better would be to say who gave the rep so that you don't have to annoy moderators to have them see who gave the rep so that you can report spam/unjustified negative reps. Also, theres the fact that opinions differ and someone's flamey post may go across as humor to someone while someone else actually takes the post for what it was ment for (remember, always take flames with a grain of salt). Refering to the post above, where number guy said he gave someone a negative rep because they posted humor (read: I don't think it was funny, but he obviously did) and number dude thought it was immature. If you don't take something for what it was ment for, then its your fault when you find it offensive or immature. Jesus people, this is the stuff that causes fights at schools and stuff. |

Very well said, Dragon. Hmm. That gives me another idea. What if for every bad rep you gave, you would also have to give a good rep before giving another bad rep. For that, people would be more "nice". Hm. I myself probably give the same amount of + reps as - reps. |

ya... i posted this in another thread i was at 18 rep, and 2 negatives dropped me to 1 rep... thats -8.5 rep each ONE green one gives you 2 rep... now i think this is unfair |

I have a bad rep that says, "Big Limey" One that says"Rep spam, hope you get banned." one sayinn "Damn stealers!" When I never stole anything. one I didn't know what the master contest was and I asked and got bad rep and one that says nothing and gives no reason. I'm sick of it. It should auto sign it. |

You already said that... And I just recently got a bad rep for some reason, you can go to my profile and click the link, I wasn't offending anybody, it could've been a mistake. And if it was auto-signed... then the people would flame BACK, thus making more chaos... EDIT: Now I see two bad reps that lead to the same thing. Blank. Weird. |

Okay i have a question (if you give me a bad rep, go to hell). What does rep do anyway? Does it GIVE you anything or is it just there for showing off how much the people on the internet love you? o_O (If so thats sad). If it doesnt do anything who really cares? :\ |
| 05-22-2004, 07:05 AM | #56 |
Yeah... you're right in that. It actually might be useful if it even was useful for something else, like if you had more then (uh) 25 reputation points then you got something, or something like that, like the points some time ago. |

...meh. The rep system had good concepts in mind and I cant yell at them for that, but it's being misused. |

-ve reps aren more powerful than +ve reps. its just that who ever gave you a -ve rep has a very high rep themselves. so if that person had given you a +ve rep then your points would have gone up by a lot. its an attempt to prevent low posters and low rep epopel from having too much rep power |

Actually, if rep system said who gave you each reputation, it won't get rid of "abuses" it would only start reputation wars. And if you have more than 1 bad rep point it means you are hated by a lot of people, none can give 2 bad rep points to the same person in a row, and being hated by a lot of people is the meaning of having a bad reputation anyways. And having -X reputations doesn't really mean you'll get banned, the admins would consider your actions and not your reputation for that. |

I have an idea. Make it so you have to give a reason for a bad rep. |
