I agree with you ABM. And some others here. Part of making a "succesful" map is being aware of current trends. If you get too wrapped up with trying to revolutionize a genre or going overboard and making a drawn out complex game, you just aren't gonna get very far. The most succesful games 9 times out of 10 are based off a previously succesful game with improved functionality and a little more eye candy. This apllies to warcraft the same as it applies to the entire gaming industry. Don't alienate your potential player base by trying to make something overly complex and drawn out. You have to keep in mind that while you may not like AoS or TD games, the people on battle net do. So at the end of the day, who is really stupid, the mapmaker that spends months on a map knowing full well it is not something his or her player base enjoys and is familiar with, or the player that plays what they like. |

I once upon a time made a version of Turret Wars Gradius +6 or something like that. I fixed most stuff in it and made it much more balanced and funnier... then i found it like 6 months later, some noob had put their name in it and a lot of weird names and ****, so i changed it back and made it better again, i used ISOM (this was for broodwar) since that is always a sure card... i made it gradius +10... and now maybe 2 yrs later. I found it again, now it was gradius +17 or something, but amazing enough, both the original creator and my name was still on it... and i found a game of it all the time! just hade to look for 5 mins maximum... but that may be cuz all the tards have stopped playing Broodwar by now, well i dont know but i still pwn in BW.. so there must be some tards left =) although i usually get my *** beaten in wc3, although i have made it to lvl 10 ... well, i aint sure what this had to do with the thread anymore, but im pretty sure its something EDIT: It was a serious map that required some thought and strategy, since my brother and i played 2vs5 and won all the time... yet it was simple to play.... |

You have no idea how many good maps i hade that tard think is stupid. The best one was a game where you fly a space craft around and shoot other ppl with diff types of items. ALOT of diff items. The tards didnt know how to point thier ship or shoot. It said plainly that you click on the item to make it work. And it also said that weapons use mana. They are all like "WTF WHY CANT I SHOOT HA THIS MAP SUCKS I AM 1337!" and then he leaves. I wish that there was a new filter obtion which was NO RETARD HOSTED MAPS.:( Owell. Everyone sould have a non-tard system that has before game. it says "you have 15 seconds to type "I am an intelligent computer nerd who is not 1337"." Or putting a rifleman named HUNTING SEASON with 99999999k damage and a huge red deer with 1 hp together. It says "keep the deer alive for 10 seconds." The tards would be like 8)) then they would be when they get booted 0_o thne they would be all like :nono: Ahh I can see it now, tards getting booted everywhere:ggani: Too bad for the tards://// FOR MODERAORS: PLEASE EXCUSE MY USE OF SMILIES!!!! k thanks :foot: |

Dark Revenant why dont you give your maps to the download section for other player to download it and have fun playing it. if this section doesn't exist but i think there should be one, we can ask the site host or the moderator if they could create this section...many mapmaker here say they have great maps, i really think it would be a great idea for all player to be able to discover these great maps and have fun playing them...if a tard or so called download the map and don't like it, nevermind he will delete it and won't play it, so only people who like your map will host it and play it.... Everyone i wana learn from your skills i wana see your maps, lets share everyone. |

hi, on battle.net its really hard to find a good map and some good player. I think the majority of the battle.net players dont like to think and dont like to have to think and use his/her skill to have fun. I play often on but it take me so much time to find a good map. I would like to be able to host game and make it how I feel not how all loser feel cos so much players don't understand what mean team and sometime I think a lot players cant read or dont know what mean READ CAREFULLY. I dont like the Unballanced map cos its boring you may need to know what is the unballanced heros to have fun ... and if you take a wrong hero all you have to do is leave cos you can't play anymore. I dont see so often balanced map, no one like to have a hero choice in a game they want the cheated one to not have to make a choice. Thats pretty retarted this minding... In same time, ABM i think your right, because the majority of the hosted map are boring but i cant understand why all like it. I found some good map but i see so much players they didnt understand how to play and I think they are like 7 years'old max. It's pretty unbeleivable to see a good game and a really good editor and a lot of easy usable tools arround, like this site to help and not so much good map on the multiplayer game... I'm triing to make map but its hard to make at all by myself but i get so often a lot of great idea but i didnt completely done one. I dont understand why, no one made a over 25 level balanced map ... with balanced heros/skills/items and more. I don't know if any will read this but i'm kinda new on this web site and WHY no one make TFT good map, I saw so much old crappy concept map thats so boring... Sorry if my english is kinda boring. thx to the reader they take the time to read it at all about my opinion. |

What do you expect from average player? That he will spend 2hours learning rules of some sophisticated map? That he'll watch boring cinematics half of game time? That he'll have to wait 30 mins before he gets to kill something?^^ I like RPGs, but when joined one once, I had to wait almost half an hour before the damned thing downloaded... Come on, be serious, 3mb map with 4 players downloading it?(and I was on 56k^^) Cinematics were simply boring, with all that "great evil blah, blah", not to mention game was racist(didn't notice until someone checked monster names^^)... While it was pretty good map, after seeing YET ANOTHER cinematic some guys left. Can't blame them. We expect action, fight and building stronger heroes. Teamwork as well. Also, difficulty level - it's nice when game is challenging, but when you NEED entire team of 6+ players to even *dream* of winning... well, it get's tedious. If somebody leaves, not enough people join, or someone lags and dies... Again, I've seen some good maps that allowed to chose more heroes/units if game wasn't full, but that's exception. Also, ankh is a must:D No one likes to wait for map dload just to die and quit 2 minutes later. That being said, nothing beats playing good RPG, when you work together with people who know what they're doing, share items/cash, help each other, etc. Hell, even AOS can be fun as long as there aren't any instant win items/heroes. |

Silversuns you are quite right about everything and the unbalanced map and so if you wana help for your map well u just come to the right place here many skillfull and clever guy and maybe girl can help you solve anything...i know because i was helped many time here...thanks to Saetori, and many other. if you seek good player to play a good map just ask around i am sure many of them would glady come to see what its like. i have read many thread here and i can tell many guys (girls) here are very active helping, asking, making, speaking, just look at the board and u will see often the same name. KaPe is right too because what someone like is not obvious that everyone like for example i make a game about an epic story of ninja and samourai war ( i love asian culture and philosophy) something with historical background everything true and blabla.. but the players don't give a f*** about the history of ancient japan they just care about having fun and playing... for me it would be a great game and for them boring... and if worst of all with my pityfull skill in cinematic i try to do a 10 min boring horrible stupid cinematic people would just throw me stone and just ripe off the game from their computer this is understandable, but that doesn't mean i shouldn't make this game if i have fun with it, if i have fun making it, and if i can find people who would like it (even if they are 1 on 10000) well that would be my own problem but i wouldn't have to complain about people not playing my map. u can do a map u like to people like u or a map stupid to people stupid (as there is obviously more stupid people) or a good map but good enough and easy playable enough to make stupid people like it and quality people think it is a good map interesting and worth there time. |

Thanks, It took a long time to make. About the balancing: I've played tons of games on battle.net with friends and strangers alike most agree that it is very balanced. :D |

Yes you do see fight club created once in a while. Good and Bad are opinions decided by the general community. No "bad map" is popular for long. These maps you see created regularly are either cleverly made to attract the community, or just a struck gold somewhere. The community is not made out of 12 year old retards. For one, many 12 year olds are much more mature then half the people in the community. Like I go in, and this guy calls me a maphacker because "I just clicked on his building." Then he proceeds to call me a maphacking f**ker. This happens all the time. Note to the... new people: You can't see a person clicking your building unless you are watching a replay. Anyway, the point is, you can't say that a good map has gone to waste just because YOU think it's a good map. If you want to make it well known as good map, spread it. 1) If you see a map filling half the slots on your CG list you KNOW it's popular. 2) If the FIRST EVER custom map you play is half-decent, you'll be simply amazed (for maybe a few hours). First EVER impressions count. You'll notice that the most popular CGs are those that have been in the business since 1.01. From TDs to AoS-like maps to hero arena to vampire hunters (sheep tag wasn't there and it's still a retard in the face). And many maps with great abuse aren't played more than once by anyone. What you THINK is abuse is merely someone playing well (with of course, the correct hero, helps sometimes). Many have shouted "abuse" in the b.net ladder, and went on to play. They try to use that "abuse", but they can't. Many maps are like that. Remember the golden rule for the maps played often (ToD, SkiBiTD). For every abuse there is an equal and opposite abuse. If it's a good map, spread it. If it's a bad map, WHY IS EVERYONE PLAYING IT? They want to have fun. They want to win/lose and feel happy about it. Just to prove that the b.net community is not retarded (although they are immature), we've seen WarDraft created countless times. One can say that a factor of luck is involved, but you can't win without skill. TillerMaN: "What can I diew?! Can somebody please tell me what I can diew?" Do something. |

I've just read most of this topic, and I completely agree. Bnet players are morons who don't really care about gameplay. They just care about games where they don't have to use their mind at all, where they just mindlessly kill stuff without no thought what-so-ever. That's what kills me about maps. There are people out there who have made decent maps that are really worth playing, and a lot of the times they aren't even touched, and then there's the morons on Bnet who play unbalanced, boring and lame games just because they like to win, and they don't care about gameplay at all. Look at almost every freakin TD ever made, for example. In almost every TD, no skill is required, all you do is build a bunch of towers fast, then get the "UBER ULTIMATE GIGA SUPREME OMFG OVERPOWERED NERF NERF NERF TOWER WICH KILLS EVERYTHING IN ONE HEET!!!" tower and kill everything, no strategy there. Boring, wouldn't you say? While on this subject, I really REALLY hope I don't have to bring up all the issues with every Maul. Seriously, these are the most idiotic, most rigged maps ever, that require pretty much NO SKILL WHATSOEVER, and look at how popular they are! I think I've made my point that almost the whole Battle.net population are either complete idiots, or just premature 8 year olds who don't care about gameplay and just want the most imbalanced quality possible. Also, there's the occasional AoS game. AoS games are always fun at first... until the people find an insanely unbalanced hero and how to get the most unbalanced item, then just pick that hero and get that item and kill kill kill kill. This is one reason why I don't play AoS games anymore. However, AoS games are getting more balanced, but there will always be some flaw in most of them that stops them from actually being balanced. Basically, to sum it all off, we will never see balanced maps get popular. Most of the idiots on Bnet care too much about games with level 10000 heroes, the ability to backstab, infinite tomes, horrible spelling, maul clones, maps that are rigged and inbalanced like hell in general. Go on Battle.net and look at the custom games, and which maps are the most popular? Which types of maps grab the most attention of the average custom Bnet player today? That's right, the most idiotic and unbalanced of all maps. I also believe that you should create maps for yourself, not for the Bnet population. Most maps I've begun creating are just because I like making maps, not because I want them to be popular. However, right now I am creating a map that I'm purposely creating just to be as unbalanced and as horrible as can be, and I'm gonna see how popular it becomes, just so I can proove the point that that's all that the Bnet players care about. To sum it up, the only way the smart people are gonna play intelligent games is if, as mentioned in this topic, we all gather together in our own private channel and actually play games worth playing. |

Plasma[Blade] i think u are a little to hard with the bnet community but still i agree with most of what u said... i create map for myself too, because when i see a good map i want to do a map ever better, i have played many td, i like td game but most of the time i was frustrating as they use no skill, they often are unbalanced, player are always complaining about their kills and forget all about teamwork, people leave the map in game, some people use over powered tower, lame strategy to kill creeps without them able to start their move, and so on but this is most for the maul... try burbenog td from shvegait with is balanced , fun , and only require to find 3 other player (good player, not average stupid moron), try also the new released ocean tide very interesting td map... i create map because i dream of a perfect , great and fun map...i don't care if people play it or not or like it or not (well i do care a little ;) ) The most interesting u said is to create a channel for good interesting player, that means everyone who cares to come here , to care about making map, to care about reading this post. so wich chanel should we use and in wich server... i really wish we can all gather together and share ours good home made map... |
