I was just reading a thread about someones new really good map, everyone is saying they love it, blah blah blah, you get the deal. There are replies about it not being seen up for download even though its so good. That map is probably truly a hard worked on masterpiece. The reason i'm posting this thread is for one reason alone: Making your hella good l33t and the like map into something attractive. Quote:
Thanks Pesmerga for putting it in the best words. You are true in every way. That huge amount of brainless tards is just looking for something goofy to play to keep them from being bored. What kinds of maps are these people playing? Tauren Toss, Rainbowuberdydubedy Maul TD, and Save the Pregnant Penguin (No the last two are not real maps, although i would not be surpised if they actually were). What these maps have in common is their random, unorganized, surprising nature. The more advanced, strategic, complicated, organized maps do not attract people because they lack a hint of any of these aspects. Now, how to make your map attractive to people. Right now you might be thinking "They don't deserve to play my l33t schit map then", well you need these people to pass your map along. Think about how some of your friends act and which custom games maps they play. Yes, you now realize they are bored worthless idiots. Now, tell them to get their *** back to the chat channel and tell you some exciting unexpected stuff that can happen in your map. Whatever they say, keep note of it. Try to replicate these idiotic things into your map without ruining its strategic or basic fun nature. Change the names of some stuff to be semi-comical. Add some extra unneccesary color to the text messages. Crazy music, crazy sounds, i'm sure you can find some perfect for the events in your map. One last important thing is the name of your map. Try to make it sound different then everything else out there. You will soon attract those retarded bored people and they will be like "WTF!? I have to try that!" Then your map is out there. If you plan on making newer version of your map, just kinda phase out SOME, but not all of the stupid names and zig zags everywhere. Please post comments and ideas about how to add some zest to attract people to a map without ruining it. I'm starting to think i desperately need that kind of stuff in my map, read my sig, i think you will agree. |

I realized that people on b-net were dumbasses long ago. Now I play pay monthly games. You should try Planet Side, that game is great, the people who play it are very coordinated and there are virtually no TKers. It's awesome. |

Is planetside a MMORPG? |

...then why are you still hanging around Warcraft 3 websites? |

lol...planetside great? I won't get into a debate here since it doesn't belong on the war3 boards, but if ya wanna hear my opinion on it send me a PM :P (or irc) |

Oh...and one more thing you can do to make your map popular is to unbalance it majorly...make one class/race/building/unit/whatever stronger than the rest. In a later update you can fix that unbalance...People like to win :P |

lol... Kinda sad but true, for all of these. Also, make a 1337 sounding name, like SUPER ULTRA MEGA HERO ARENA GOLD PLATINUM v.098135632(1337 EDITION)(FREE TOMES)!!!!!!! Don't forget the CAPS and purposefully misspell stuff EVERYWHERE. Also don't forget to put the name of another map in yours, if it anywhere remotely resembles your map. Good map names are DotA, AoS, Cube TD, Gladiators.... or anything that ends with Maul. Change character names to Final Fantasy or Lord of the Rings characters. Rip off any other popular map batantly. By blatantly, I mean copy & paste triggers, terrain, or unit data. Don't forget to delete any reference to the original author of the map, and claim everything as your own... /rant (EDIT) Definately, DO NOT add anything original to your map, b.net people can't handle original ideas. Their brains will explode. |

What you have to do is simple. If you have a 5 year old sibling, just ask them if they like the map. If they like it, the chances are that the majority of Bnet will like it. :ggani: |

i think zoizite hit the nail on that one... if you play a shitty map and it sucks ***, there will be 2348970293874928374987234897298 edits of the map that are equally as bad, or perhaps even worse perhaps one of the worst maps ive ever played (yes, dont move your tauren was load of fun compared to it!) was *hmmm i guess i shouldnt say the name...*, loaded with shitty triggers and stupid concepts, horribly imbalanced, the map was just horrible... im sure there are people that actually like this map (somehow...) despite it being absolutely horrible (its based 100% on the items you get, it doesnt even stop spawning items once u start dueling...) im sure there are lots of edits, and ive seen it being hosted before, despite the fact i almost never join any games not made by ppl on my friends list i've compiled a list of things many maps have in common, it is posted below (this is a joke... laff) How to maek yuor mapp pupyoulare: -add teh lots of "tombs" (note: ITS TOME) witch can maek it vary imblanced -mispel tones of woreds, even if yuo have spellad tehm rite befoar -take as littel tiem as posibbell on teh map as you can because maps shouldn't be fun, they should be crappy -rip off a previously made map and claim it is your own work completely giving no credit to the noob that made it because you aer thirteen 3 5+2 |

i definitely agree with what youre saying... although, when i find an actually decent map on bnet i love to play it and distribute it. i guess not everyone is like that.. :( but anyway... let's find a way to give great maps a chance out there!!! |

[RANT]And how is the above idea possible, considering the average battle.netter? Half of the time, they 1) play stupid maul-clones (half of which still say "Wintermaul TD" in their leaderboards and end credits...) 2) make a maul-clone themselves 3) brag about their "1337 maping skillz" in a forum/chatroom somewhere 4) join a game that seems to have some sort of point, just to yell "this is gay" and leave after playing for five minutes[/RANT] |

ya ive considered quitting bnet(considered) bucause of all the tards........ i wanna go back 2 warforge(ya i no its a crack but it doesnt exist any more so who cares.....) there were very few tards there and no crap mauls ect basically 7 maps that got hosted lol |

I am officially renaming my map "ReDeSh's WACKYYYY FUNNY Wold!!!!!111" with lots of colors) Do take this literal. And thanks for all the advice, considering there aren't alot of people who have the intelligence to play my map. Buy if it never gets hosted I can still play it with my beta testing partner Man my favorite map type , diplomacy, you can never find a game of it hosted. Probably due to it's level of thinking and the skillz required. Oh well... |

This is sad, you people are trying to make your map with very low quality, the things that "attract" the average bnet player keeps me away from them. |

You know Wintermaul was the guys name that created the TD... |
