well wacko, it seems someone has understood me. there are a lot of problems to do fully functional mmorpg, but that's why i posted this idea here! if i knew how to do it, i would have done it!

we have to take it like a challange for the community, i'm sure there is someone with the sufficient knowledge to help in this task. there are some ppl who are constantly saying "impossible impossible impossible". it seems they don't want someone try this.

and if we finally couldn't make this, we could open to other possibilities like NWN or D2.

You'll need...

1. A bank to store items
2. Jobs, (Such as a lumber jack, minning)
3. A trading system. So players can trade items.
4. A lot of skins to choose from for you character at character genartion.
5. Be able to level up to 50 or more. (Some maps already have done this)
6. Someway to make your character to get more then 4 skills.
7. A system when you level up, you get to choose 5 points into strength, dexitry, endurance, or mana
8. many, many quests.

of cource thats when you figure a way to save characters.

1. easy
2. easy, too
3. we only need a way to trade gold , u can drop items and give them to other players
4. not that hard cuz we have some very good skinners here @ Wc3camp
5. easy (but it sux cuz u don't get skill points after lvl 10)
6. you can make up to 6 skills, there are 2 free slots
7. easy to do with triggers
8. u need just MUCH time :p (if we get a big team it's possible)

btw u can make a map up to 480x480 , and that's really LARGE, u can make islands for example...

You can trade gold with allied players, the only problem is its only chunks of 100. What we need is a party system, where you can add/remove people from your party... leave the party you are in, create parties etc... All it would do is set you as an "allie" of the player you add to your party, allowing you to share gold and experience etc. I don't know if there's a way to make another player "neutral" towards you (not hostile, but doesnt share exp). Then people in your party would be allies, and people not in your party would be neutral.

atributing stats :) Done and done download my bag demo. You can even edit the bag to work as trading...

I also devised a very crappy sell system where it checks if the item is of X level then gives you Y amount of money. Not exactly the best way of doing things...but it works

Currently my algorithim takes your stats (all of which are easily extracted from variables or unit/war3 data) then it adds and subtracts certains values depending on how many letters are in your name and what letter they are it also multiplies or devides by a number depending on other htings. Also as a rule the stat numbers when added must be equal to a certian number (there is added bs numbers to help this when the number is generated) After the map does the little math to get the the stat number if when adding every digit together it is != said number then the charachter will be invalid and will not Generate. You only get 1 chance to enter your password if you entered it wrong or just guessed to bad. And remember superiki joe smoe mapper is scared senseless of a protected map and wouldn't bother to extract the .j

But people could cheat. That's the sad fact.
Think about it:
- You create a bunch of maps.
- You create a hero transporting system. (I've done one, it's buried in one of the old threads in this forum).
- You think of many many quests and code them into your maps
- You play it on b.net and see cheated characters.
Maybe it's some 14 year-old guy who wants to show you all how 1337 he is!!! And maybe he writes a tutorial on cheating *shudder*. OK, chances are little that he does that.
But with cheated characters the whole community you build up with your map would collapse I think.

Remember: The map hacker does not need to understand the encryption. So it doesn't matter how complicated it is. He can just add an item to the map and get it with his hero. E.g. Tomes of Exp.

Think about in what you put your efforts.

Thats where you use the wonderful snipit of knowledge zepir tought me on worldedit. Make your trigger for loading/saving charachter. Now export the script. Delete the trigger for saving. Now add the Script to the map if the guy tampers with the map and saves using worldedit (I.e. adding a tome of Xp as your saying) Oh no You can't enter passwords or save password anymore.

Ofcourse there is so much more you can do like crashing the map for tampering but disabling saving is a good enough start...

there is a way to make a "sell item" system:

you can make a hero, and give it a box model for example and let's call it item box.
every 1 second of the game - Player - Add Integer(current life of(item beeing carried by item box in slot 1)) to player 1's current gold.

so you can set the chewing price by the item life :)

P.S. the idea is by ganon

BUt item life does not represent how much an item is worth if anything the item life should be at most 100 which is really no money for the uber uber rare sword. Atleast with my method if its a level 10 item you can determine its sold value...

you can change the item life :)
