The location you load it from is war3patch.mpq. The location you save it to is your map name. Make sure you include the .w3m at the end of your map name. If you save it to your war3patch.mpq or war3.mpq you will corrupt it and may end up having to reinstall WC.

When we click on the link to download it we get a text file.....

This is a dumb question... but what goes in what ling in techMPQ, how many times do i MPQ it? and then where does your spell edditor come into play in all this?

Be careful not to save to mpq when not having loaded the mpq. If you do that all your mpq data will be altered. That sucks. I had to reinstall and repatch the game. *Sniff*

And Please make a version that we modnewbs can understand. Or atleast Make a nicer readme.

How do you make spells have Unit projectiles? I once saw this Laban Shot spell that fired a wisp at the enemy. Looked much like a reaver.

Heh... You newbs are so funny. That kinda stuff is in the txts. And you can give missles a misslearc, so they shoot up and over. I havent messed with it a whole lot, but its best not to put it over 90 degrees. Otherwise it will shoot straight up into the air, and wont really go anywere.

Suggestion:

Commented fields
TXT Support. Have it like let you enter info for the comment, LVL 1 requirement, ect, and have it save it in just a txt file, then we can copy it over to an ability file. It would make editing masses of abilities much nicer.

Hey i used faranims guide to spell editing and did evertyhnig right but now, when i try to add a spell to a hero, item, or unit the list is GONE! There is no spells on the list, just a blank menu! WTF! HELP PLEASE

ok, im having problems with the spell editor. Here is what I do step by step:

1) put everything in the warcraft3 folder

2) Click "load" and select war3patch.mpq

3) Edit some spells

4) Save as AbilityData.slk

5) I cant press SaveToMPQ, because the SaveToMPQ button doesnt work, when I press it, a window opens up asking me to LOAD an MPQ, not save. I cannot select a map file to "save" it to.

6) So instead, I use a different mpq program. I add the AbilityData.slk file to the w3m map file I want to use. I do that, run the map, and nothing has changed.

So whats going on here? What is up with the "SaveToMPQ" button that is the same thing as the "LoadToMPQ" button?

Here's my problem. I don't have Excel and the SpellEditor leaves me with a corrupted .slk resulting in me not getting ANY spells to show up in the world editor. I tried several times and each time is screwed up. I was playing around with works spreadsheet and it's actually easier than the Spell Editor (you can copy and paste a spell and you can set it up so that what each column means (range, targ, etc.) is listed at the top of the screen by using a split screen) but I can't save a file in the proper format. So somebody please tell me...

A) How to save using Works Spreadsheet

OR

B) How to stop the Spell Editor from corrupting my AbilityData.slk.

How do I save my new abilities I create to a specific map for b-net? I tried to use the "SavetoMPQ" button but it just does the same thing that "LoadMPQ" does.

I downloaded this off of wc3campaignes. What link is the link to the most up-to-date version of this editor with the errors fixed?

The main thing I want to do is very simple: to make abilities appear in a different command cube box that I want them to be in, not in their default box.
e.g. -I want to make Starfall be in the very first square of a hero's command box, not in the last position like every other ultimate.

Bear with me. I'm new to this, and I'm no programmer.
