Hi everybody.

I think this question was asked often.

I want to implement my own TGA into the Preview-Minimap of my Map. I've downloaded the Zepir's Beta 8. It does not work...

Now i want to know how to do it without any tools.
Pure source-/programming stuff. =)

Now theme 2 of my thread:
My RPG. I am on constructing a RPG in Blizzard's own Warcraft3 Fantasy-Universe. It takes place at Ironforge, at Khaz Modan.
I only knew that there is a place called Ironforge. I love dwarves and knew: Khaz Modan is a dwarven country. Now i added a human stronghold as base of actions for the up to 6 heroes. Is this totaly wrong in this area, to place an human stronghold there?

If there is someone with real knowledge, pleace tell me about Khaz Modan and especialy Ironforge... =) It would be great for the authenticity of my RPG. (i hope that my german-styled english is not too german)
;)

Please send me response guys. ^^
If you wont answer fast there will be a human stronghold at Ironforge! =D

You need a tool, but its just winmpq which is the most basic tool a mapper has. Save the .tga as an uncompressed file named war3mapPreview.tga, and just insert it into the minimap and you are ready to go. (though ensure that its a squre image and 128x128 or 256x256 for optimal results.

Either way you look at it, unless you can compress the entire file manually with a hex editor ;), you are going to have to use a tool.
look for an easy winmpq installation at www.shadowflare.com .

As far as the authenticity is concerned, take a look at the warcraft novels next time you hit Waldenbooks, or read the manuals from the old warcraft games to refresh yourself on the universe, Fan fiction found through google might also be a place to turn.

Sorry i cant help you with the latter part, this is mostly a techincal forum. (Look around, Most of us can't even name the campaigns heroes hehe)

when in the timeline of the various blizzard plots does this happen? In Warcraft 2 there was an alliance between the dwarves of Khaz Modan and the Lordaeron humans, and the Quel'thalas elves, so a human fortress is definitely possible. It could just be a mining town where they trade ores with the dwarves...but as to whether it will work, sure it will

yay

lol, you're german and the english in your post was better than mine in this one

I downloaded the WinMPQ.

I opened the W3M-File with WinMPQ.
Now there is a listfile. I added the TGA.
But how to save it again as W3M-File?

"Run-time error 'S'"
"Invalid procedure call"

as he wanted to run "HW3M"

O.o
I'm so unskilled. ~_~

I hope 4 help again.

Thanks for the WinMPQ and Khaz Modan / Dwarves-Human introduction. =D

This is quite odd actually there should be a lot more than the listfile in there.

1) save your map, in the editor
2) close the map, in the editor
3) open it in winmpq (yourmap.w3m)
4) Drag your .tga file into the MPQ gui (where you see all the files)
5) Close winmpq, no saving required it updates in real time.

The editor and the game both put file locks on the map which wont allow you to add files to it.
