huh, i guess (as almost always) i have posted in the wrong forum, so feel free to move my thread... i just wanted to ask why the art tools are only for 3dsmax 4 and 5 and not for 9... whats different? is there any way to maybe recompile the art tools for max9? or use any scripts (i am thinking of the ik animation baker and dexportscript maybe someone would need to recode some stuff?]) to make 3dsmax 9 work with wc3? |

1. i dounno why, but max 5 doesnt work on my computer... trust me i tried it often enough! 2. so? its different, how different? really different? so lets say, would be exporting of a normal mesh with unwrapping and anims be possible? |

1. I think Art tools doesn't care if you tried :p 2. 9 and 5 are differents. Go to Discreet website to know the changes.... 3. Get a working 3dsmax5 or 5.1, that's it. 4. Or wait Sc2 to use the 9. But don't wait 6 years after Sc2 release to download 3dsmax 15 and ask for using it. ^^ |

Latest version is 11 aka max 2009. It has spline uv tool. :3 |

But if you have only 3dsMax 9 (and nothing else), what exactly is required for making a model that the Warcraft can understand? |

i guess impexmdx or other scripts and in the end you got to recreate the texture channels(?) i didnt try this out yet... would it be possible to use the ik anim baker? |

3dmaxhy's ik animation baker should work fine with any version of max, because it's a maxscript. However, the wc3 ArtTools is a PLUGIN, not a script. Plugins are always version dependet, due to the changes of the program's core from version to version. That's why it's not compatible with newer versions of max. And this applies to any plugins. |

nope, i didnt change anything on my system... everytime i wanna install max 5 and want to click on the first "next" button a window pops up which says: "Do you really want to interrupt the installation?" (which would be right if i'd click the "cancel" button) but the "cancel" button does not redirect me to the next window of installatuion, but shows me the same -.-' would it be possible to make several scripts to work together so its like the plugin? (maybe without the ribbon emitters, probably the particle emitters would be difficult aswell... so just plain exporting of a model with materials and anims?) |

Get another version of max 5 ^^ |

why don't you just use dex exporter? Making the art tools out of maxscript is impossible. |

okay... -.-' i'll try to get my way round -_- |

Do as I do, mak your model normally then export it as .FBX. Reimport to max 5 or other tool which can export it correctly aned export it to wc3. You can also use Dexporter, but it's a pain in the arse to use. |
