Ok, I've been dying to know ever since I heard about the results and followed their work on Samods... But whatever happened to get Ominous Horizons bumped off of hosting from this site? And is there anything left in some dark annals of the forums (like the elusive "staff forums") that I could get a hold of? Their seemed to be some emnity involved, which is only all the more intriguing. My apologies if this is an "off-limits" question of any sort; just wondering if one of the veterans knows what went down. |

I've never heard of it. And unless the work were to actually be yours, we couldn't really give it to you to use without the owner's permissions. Anyway, the projects archive seems empty, but I'm not at all familiar with the archives here; if I haven't heard of it, then it must have been a pretty long time back, probably Draco's era or before. |

Wow. Join Date = 2003, and never even heard of it? It must be old, then... Although I think that's about when they got they're start. Anyway, thanks for the speedy reply. Anyone else? |

With a wee bit of googling and shizzle, I found this thread, which apparently spawned it (and they were hosted): http://www.wc3campaigns.net/showthread.php?t=36844 But that guy suddenly stopped posting, 05-11-2005. At least posts still visible. I tracked down a link that was to forum ID 377 - a forum ID which apparently does not exist. Anyway, that 2005 date implies that they left when WC3C died that month, with Draco, before rising from the flames like a zombie, better than ever (long live Vex! (because if he goes, this site is stuffed)). |

Yes! Exactly! I had found that a while ago, which led me to Samods... But this thread was great when I first went through; provided a great springboard of seeing many of their original ideas. Thanks, seriously, though; now that I'm a member, I can search for all his posts/threads and hopefully get some more info. I've heard only snippets of that "Draco - Vex - site dying - rebirth" thing... What went on there? Was this "Draco" the previous owner/hoster/? of the site? |

Odd that no one remembers them, Ominous Horizons was a very popular project at that time, kind of like ToBvO now I guess but quite a bit more so because their updates were more often. Their aim was basically to make a custom melee with tauren, troll, nerubian and some other race that I forgot, all models (buildings and units) were to be custom made. I believe the tauren race was nearly made, in fact they had a working demo going, back when I used to model, I made a few models for them. They never did get hosted on wc3c btw, the community loved them but the admins decided not to go for it, so there was a lot of hostility over that. They moved to Samods, did some work there and then died. It was revived briefly I believe but I think it's dead again now. |

OH was proof that you need to have realistic goals for your mod project. It died because it was just too ambitious. We did release all the completed models unlike some mods of a similar time period that never got finished (anyone else remember Project RoR?) |

Or proof that you need to start slow. Oh, so you (Taur) are the same Taur that posted on their forums?! Awexome. I remember your work on the Brawler; nice stuff. (BTW, I don't know if you got my e-mail, but do you have anything from that project that you'd be willing to part with?) Otherwise, yes, I have the semi-completed Test Map with the nearly finished Tauren (several neat models, although a little high-end for my Warcraft tastes...) ~~ By the way, I've been trying to figure this out; but they used a custom .mpq in order to transfer and use their custom stuff. I tried to export a single model (and it's skin) and use it in my map, and it worked perfectly. But when I tried it again after removing the custom .mpq, the model wouldn't work. Is there some way to "really export" a model (or anything) from a custom .mpq? |

I be bettering that your skin be being on the wrong path. |

Wha-what? Is not English be being most your best language? :P And although you're right (the game says "cannot load file dino.blp"), it also says the same for the model. The problem is (as I see it), the model and skin's path is only on the custom .mpq; it's something like Neutral/Creeps/Dino.blp/.mdx. Without that .mpq (I believe they overwrote the wc3xlocal.mpq), it has no path. |
