I need ideas, mainly the face.
Yes, the model is modified a bit, made his cloak into a coat :P
This also generated a noob war in the comments on THW, lol.

I'll split my comments into two groups for ease of reading.
Positive Comments
  • I love the way you accentuate your textures with those thick, lovely, golden borders. They scream WC3 to me so well.
  • The team color (I hope they are) shoulders look pretty good with the whole WC3 style.
Areas For Improvement
  • The purple on the cape/jacket needs to be seriously shaded. It's practically a flat color now and needs folds, plus maybe a gold-plated belt around the waist to accentuate the color spectrum you're using. (You did do some model edits, you said, might invest in making the wrap capable of handling the belt, it'd really look good)
  • The mantle (Alphaed area around his head) looks nonsensical. It appears to be bat wings.. Or something. Maybe you could go with a less extravagant, more 'pop-yo-collar' look, I think it would come off snazzy.
  • The armor is a good color contrast with the purple of the cape, but it needs a bit sharper shading. Refer to how a typical example, say, a metal ball looks with respect to the highlights and dark overtones. See how sharp those transitions are? You need your metal armor to do that, otherwise it looks like stone, and stone armor is so two millenniums ago.
  • The hair doesn't look natural. Take a gander at how say, the arthas or normal blood mage hair looks. You'll notice that it flows with the color, hair doesn't have such sharp shading. It has a more flowy and natural feel to it.
  • The face is... Well, pretty bad. You need to stop shading fleshtones with black, because it makes the face look dirty and sloppy. You need to shade it through a few layers with different colors, some yellows, some reds, some oranges. If you want a super pale look, shade it through with some darker colors. TDR made a beautiful tutorial on how to do it if you need help in that regard. AR is pretty strong at it too, so he'd more than likely help too.

Also, consider that the face will never be that strong a shade of the flesh all around. There's no wrinkles, no attitude, no emotion, it's absolutely lifeless! (Not in the undead way, either!) I also think the black eyes take away a bit from the texture since it accentuates the absolute paleness of the face. Also, the eyes are a bit too far apart and they're shaped weird because of it. Check out this texture of AR for a good example of facial shading.

lol, i saw that.

i agree with all of Dusk's comments on this.

since you're making a model edit of this, do yourself a huge favour and fix the fandagling awful bloodmage face wrap. IMO its one of the most deceptively nasty wraps... particularly the eye area - put 1 pixel out of place and BAM.

anywho, this is part of the palette i've been using for my recent skins. I block out the basic shadows and highlights with the 2nd and 4th colours then use the 3rd to smooth, and 1st and 5th to accent the shadows and highlights. you can change the lightness or saturation to suit whatever suits your needs. hope it helps :)

Oh! and for the nose, erm... well it's hard to describe so i'll draw you a picture.
yeah, so it's not the greatest example in the world, but you get the idea. try smooth out that area

Done I believe.

Hrm, I can't really make out the face properly from that angle and the rotated in-game portrait is too small to figure out. I think it looks better, but that you might need to take a little more of AR's advice for the color blending across the face. It may seen tedious at first, but it helps a lot.

Also, for the armor, you're still lacking the metal-feel. You basically just lightened the whole thing, which doesn't make it look like metal, rather limestone. I dug out this texture from the database for a good comparison. See how those quick shifts from light to dark based on perpetual lighting make it look very much like metal? You need to approach in a similar way. Recall again the metal ball I linked to above, that shows how rounded areas of metal should shade when you're looking at it flat-on. (Like in, say, a texture wrapped to a model!)

You also didn't show the cape, so I have absolutely no idea if you fixed my concerns there. Oh, and the mantle still has the batman thing going on, though if you really like it I suppose I'm in no position to tell you to change it. :p (It just looks weird and out of place, personally)

It's as blended as you can get, the problem I think is I pushed the shadows too far aside, making them virtually invisible.

I really don't know how to make metal then...

I added folds to the cape. It is quite choppy, I did my best to make it work..

Also, attached the unwrap.

EDIT: Tried to make it metal-y :/

From just the unwrap, I'm digging the face. Search this thread for a metal tutorial, I know one's there. It really shouldn't be that difficult at all, but some users have tons of difficulty with it. The cape looks like it should be okay, I'd like to see it wrapped, though. Good stuff on the whole now, though.

Re-check :P

You're cooking with gas now, just blend the shades on the boots a little better (Recall that this wraps in a round fashion, so the metal shades should blend) and you're golden; then you should probably check it wrapped and see how much better it is. :p

I think it'll work.

Terrible background color choice, but from what I can tell I think it looks pretty good now. :)

Okay then, time to compile another screenshot.
