You know Rexxar's bear? It's brown in the Barrens tileset; it's purple in the Ashenvale tileset; yet they are the same unit.

Clearly what skin is applied to it varies between tilesets, i.e. purple in Ashenvale and brown in the Barrens (and Lordaeron...w/e).

Now the high-elf-gone-blood-elf models have also 2 skins for each of them (DUH 1 high elven [white schemed], 1 blood elven [red schemed]). Both texture versions can be used in a map by making 2 of each unit and assigning to each instance 1 of the 2 textures attributed to that particular unit. Can I do this with the bear textures?

Can I use both bear textures, the purple one and the brown one, in one map by making 2 instances of the bear model..etc.etc.?

I'm assuming right now that the purple bear might be a result of lighting.

If its not its got to do with replaceble textures, wich take tileset ID's to change, like trees do.

In either case, the awnser is no, as far as i know.

well, you can do it by extracting the texture using Prophet's Model Editor, or sumthing like that, and then import and path it in over the top of a different bear model (i believe there are a few).

It's not. It's a direct result of being in a certain tile-based map, it happens with a couple units.

Every tileset has its own MPQ; look in any decent MPQ editor, you'll find various single-letter named MPQs -- the letter corresponding to the tileset.

Extract these, peek inside, and you'll see the cliff tile, along with a few skins such as Rexxar's bear that get recoloured.

I can't use both skins without imports it seems... pity.
