The Heart of Storms is one of the oldest mods in the community, featuring full remakes of existing races and tons of custom content. Here's a brief summary of the project: http://hos.samods.org/about.html

It has been frozen since 2006 but now is worked on again, and we intend to release an fully functional open beta this year.

A couple samples of our project's quality:

Here is a list of voices required to finalize the audio part of it. By 'role' I mean a set of unit replies, generally 12-18 short sentences.

First priority:

Dwarf male. Regular dwarf with heavy Scottish accent, 3-4 roles with minor differences.

Gnome male. WoW-styled, zany and cartoonish 'mad inventor'. Two roles.

Shadow Elf female. Deep-voiced, sinister female with a villain attitude. 2-3 roles. Can be voiced by male probably, and then feminized via adding a higher pitch and a number of effects. Sample: http://hos.samods.org/handmaidentest_sample.mp3

Second priority:

Orc male. Deep, growling, similar to Chaos Warlord in original Warcraft 3.

Orc female. WoW-styled, a regular deep female voice. Possibly can be voiced by a male as well, and then given a higher pitch.

Human male. Generic medieval human.

Shadow Elf male. Two roles - Slave (squeaky Gollum-styled voice, sample: http://hos.samods.org/hivelingtest_sample.mp3) and Witchmaster (insane type of guy, who screams and murmurs a lot).

Contact me via pm or on msn (dmitry_rommel(a)hotmail.com where (a) is @ :)). Joining the team as a voice actor will give you the closed beta membership in addition to my thanks and world fame ^^

YES!

I knew this mod couldn't die.

I'd do it, but my australian accent is far too strong. Good luck finding people though.

Umm Rommel wouldn't it be a bit better to publish some open alpha to attract attention. Anyway its 4AM here so tommorow morning I'll send you my voices.

But voice actors need some lines to speak

Yes ^^

So here are the test lines:

Dwarf Miner. A typical hard-working, beer-soaked dwarf ^^
What4: Wassup lad?
Yes4: We Dwarves are not afraid of work.
Attack1: Taste dwarven steel, ya bastard!

Dwarf Battlepriest. More deep, 'regal' and calm voice.
What1: It is in battle that we are truly faithful.
Yes3: Get goin' while the goin's good.
Attack4: Let the hammers fall!

Dwarf Stonebreaker. Deep-voiced, aggressive and stern.
What1: Lookin' forward to do battle!
Yes1: Make way for the Stonebreakers!
Attack2: They don't stand a chance!

Gnome Arcanist. A regular WoW-type gnome.
What1: Ideas, ideas, I need ideas!
Yes1: Hmm, I smell magic!
Attack1: Your mana is mine!

Gnome Technomage. More zany and high-pitched voice than a regular gnome.
What1: Need a bit of Technomagic?
Yes1: I'm going. I'M GOING!
Attack1: You'll be divided by zero!

Human Outrider. Regular medieval human, though with a bit of cowboy attitude.
What1: At yer command, milord.
Yes1: Ridin' forward!
Attack1: Lock and load!

Shadow Elf Witctmaster. Insane, switches from whispering to loud screaming.
What1: I don't need the words! I'm beyond the words! (laughter)
What2: Sanity? What's that?
Yes1: (loud) I'll yet witness the end of time!
Yes4: (murmuring) …she's close, she's coming…

I love the personalities on some of these units. Sadly, I own no microphone, so I can't help. But God, I want some of those models. Just the two you've presented made me drool.

Awexome to hear that HoS is back in production. :P

By the way, what kind of program does one use to make voice files? I'm thinking of getting Audacity, but someone told me it saves to a separate file format... Thoughts?

Audacity saves in .wav, but it can also save in .mp3 with a plug-in, which I can't seem to find.

Oh. Are .wav's unusable by Warcraft (I assume so, since you mentioned the .mp3 plug-in)?
