Special FX After Unit Dies

When an SFX is attached to a unit and said unit later dies, apparently so does the SFX. Since the SFX isn't removed through a trigger does the death of the attached unit act in the same way?

Also on another note I was told some time ago that creating visibility modifiers that emit black mask would help to reduce lag by masking explored regions. Any truth to this?

yes the seffect is killed when the unit dies.
