WE Terrain Height Restrictions (Screenshots)

This is probably old news, but I just noticed that we can alter the terrain height limits in the WE. This allows for some pretty good mountainous terrain, as shown below. The limit appears to be hardcoded at from -2048 up to +2048 on the Z axis. Anything below or above that and the vertex jumps off into lala land.

These terrains have nothing to do with anything. I was just whipping something up to show the effect.

In the following picture the foreground goes from -2048, up the ramp to the grassy plain at or abount +0, and then the mountains in the background go up to +2048. This is as low as the default cam would go in the WE (note the units going up the ramp - footmen, militia, and knights):

An aerial of the ramp:

Close up of the mountains:

Of course this map would require extensive path map painting to make the ramp and mountains work. Be nice if Blizzard had a button you could push which would auto-generate no-walk areas based on slope. *dream*

Let me know what you think!

Care.

EDIT: I played the map and the camera adjusts to the terrain height (i.e., it behaves as usual).

It looks great! The mountains are too! I know how to do those after the thread about Helm's Deep, but I still don't know how to restrict walking except by using those transparent black boundaries :nono:

The ramp is the best screenshot I saw so far. By the way, do you think you should add more bumps too it? The mountains on the side seems symmetrical :bgrun:

heres a idea,

put fences around the path

Heaven: in your edit you said it behaves normally, so it doesnt just stop at the usual -128?

Cool mountains...... But im confused... How do u do it again?
Does it involve the MPQ editor or just in the WE??

FyreDaug: yeah, I thought since in the WE it won't let you zoom in [much] below the regular default viewing plane that in-game it would keep you zoomed that far out.

Fortunately when I tried it the camera behaved normally, floating a little right off the ground. Even on the -2048 parts of the map.

Sameng: you extract ui\miscdata.txt from the MPQ (can't remember if war3.mpq or war3patch.mpq), place it in you war3\ui directory, and edit it. The WE then uses the local copy instead of the one in the MPQ. You want to revert to original? Just delete the local copy in your \ui directory.
