Properly Remove Terrain Deformations?

Anyone know of a trick to remove and recycle the handle id of terrain deformations? Temporary deformations as well as calling stop have no effect. The handles count up from 0 and are never recycled.

I was hoping to use them to generate random height maps, but after so many generations, it starts to lag from all the leaked handles.
