I'm going to use this thread to ask questions regarding the project i am thinking about starting. The project itself is like a risk map just so you know. The problem i have now are if i should use 1 race, 2-4 big races (Elfs, humans, undead and orcs) or if i should have many tiny races (goblins, dwarfs, night elfs, blood elfs, demons, orcs, humans and so on) I don't know which one i should pick really. But right now i am thinking most of 2-4 big races. Which one do you think would be the best choose? |

Personal opinion: 2-3 races which are balanced (starcraft). Each race can counter the other. All races should start off really basic and become more complex (micro-management). |

I don't like a SINGLE universal race but I hate having shit loads of races. The only exception to said rule is Pest Invasion (which has shit loads of races, all high quality). |

Yeah if i use 1 race it wont have any unit variation and every player will use the same units. If i have to many races it will feel/look bad. So i think i am gonna stick with 3 races and a hidden race. I have another question. Should towers be build able or should they be close to control points and when they die the become ruins (Like in warlords) and have to be upgraded in to towers again? |

You could just make them get some sort of bonus when they're closer to control points. My ideas were faster build time, some sort of regeneration and extra armor. That'd really hint "BUILD HERE!!" if you made it like that. However, looking at it from the other point of view - if you preplaced a series of "Tower Stumps" and "Tower Ruins" and made them upgrade into actual towers, there would be no choice of building elsewhere and keeping them isolated to control points. |

I vote for 2 - 4 well done races. Lots of little races is only good if each have only a small number of units and you can effectively make them unique. 1 race is really bad, ive tried making qute a number of maps based on a single race, they all sucked horribly. |

I like your idea that you benefit when you build close to a control point. What do you guys think about hidden heroes, items and spells. Of course you will have to do something to get them. Like sacrifice an amount of units. Of course you wont be able to get more then 3 heroes. Also should i use the "normal" races. Human, Night elf and orc? Or maybe make 2 own races and use human or 3 own races? |

Make your own. Hidden things is always a treat, as long as it is things worth getting. |

You answered so fast that it is creepy. People are getting tired about the human, elf and orc maps? Well i love humans so i gotta have some kind of human race. Maybe an animal race. Yeah the hidden things will be worth getting in the long run (this is only for hereos) A hero that you only have for 5-10 mins isent worth getting. I know its quite hard to really answer this question but those this map sound fun or those it sound boring? |

I like risk, but the ones that have come out in the past couple of years has almost all been sort of crap (not including risk devolution). So hopefully yours will bring something new to the table. However, to have a proper risk map you should try and keep things simple, so don't add too much weird shit or unnescesary races. |
