[Theorycraft] Altered Melee, not quite...

First of all Im making a map which I have absolutely no idea what genre it is.

Two rival armies face off against each other on each side of the map, each with its own team base. The objective is to destroy the main Fortress of your enemy team.

Each player has a Commander, which is a Hero type unit.
Players cannot control their allied creeps but Commanders heavily interact with creeps both positively and neagtively in the case of enemies.

1) Im thinking of introducing a "Rank" system for non hero, non summoned units. Kinda like levels except that it actually has an effect on gameplay.

2) How should creeps or soldiers enter the battle?
If i made them autospawn it would turn the map into an AOS wouldnt it?
I was thinking along the lines of "Castle Fight" in which players can build "Spawners" that release troops, what do you guys think about that?

3) I need ideas for Commader - Soldier interaction.

All suggestions are welcome.

I always thought it might be interesting to spawn troops/units based on how you spend some sort of 'stats' on your side.

So perhaps you might invest a large amount of points in the "power" category, but then also a small amount of points in the "strength in numbers" category; this might mean that you spawn, say, a limited number of paladins that are rather powerful. Whereas if you had done the reverse (low power and high numbers) you might spawn a crapload of peons that would bumrush enemies.

Dunno where that idea is going, and it probably wouldn't be very balanced, but maybe it can inspire you to think up something cool.

A spell that summons units. They become uncontrollable and attack. Made a map like this quite a while back, where you'd "build" a unit, and it would spawn 5 clones and attack as a BOT.

Id really like something like that. Now only I need to make sure the Player doesnt spend too much time trying to actually produce the units and not care abt his/her hero.
