I just watched this video showing the editor of the upcoming Far Cry 2 game. http://farcry.uk.ubi.com/index.php?page=blog Terraining on that editor is super easy and fast, because you do not plant doodads one by one, but use a random brush instead. This is probably a relief for the majority, who do not like terraining. I believe other games will follow this example in their editors, and soon you can't make much personal solutions in for example a forest. This is kinda a bad thing, because I as a terrainer enjoy making my own style of terrain no one else can do. Imo, it's also a good thing that an experienced terrainer can make much better looking terrain than a newbie. That's one way for quality maps to stand out. What do you think? I must admit the editor still looks tempting and one can still take credit for designing the map. Can't wait for that game to be released. |

With game editors, there's always some mod'ing community that will pop up after some time if enough people aren't satisfied with what they're given (or limited to). |

I doubt the game companies would lift a finger, just because some people are not liking something. A good example of this is the colour-petition sent to Blizzard about Diablo 3, they didn't care at all. There are always people who are unhappy about something and it's impossible to please them all. We terrainers, being a minority among modders, lose. |

Even though I do enjoy terraining every now and then I do find this random-brush thing exciting, whatever makes things easier I embrace. |

I find the random brush exciting as well, but at the same time I don't like it, because from now on, all terrain on such games will have totally unpersonal terrain, similar in every map. |

It makes things easier for making maps but not for making terrains. But if i have a choose to place single doodads its fine. But then again, terrainers don't usually have a choose in FPS games to make terrain. |

Starcraft 2 world editor will be the call to arms for terrainers and mapmakers from the Warcraft 3 era! Rejoice in the second coming of the World Editor!!!!! |

It is not like that feature is new at all. It is basically what warcraft 2 had, no, it didn't stop good terrain from appearing. |

I guess one can consider warcraft 2's forest brush similar... Though it's still a little different, wc2 didn't even have doodads. What I've heard from SC2 editor, I think it will be awesome. |

Go try Red Alert's editor. As nice as a random generator will be, manual terraining will always be better. So don't worry about it antsu, your terrains will still stand out. |

Vexorian: I see, I must have missed it then. rulero: Not if I will be stripped from my tools. What I fear is that soon on every editor the only option is somekind of random brush, and you're not able to affect on single doodads. |

If somebody did that, a modder would rapidly find out a way not to be forced to the random brush and terrain will be saved. |
