I noticed that quite a few of the stickies here havn't been updated, and I'm hesitant to use tools that have been replaced with easier, more efficient ones. As I make my transition back into the modeling world, would anyone mind briefly mentioning the tools/posts that are recommended (in general) for working with .mdls? |

They haven't been updated because nothing serious has been done for a long time. The Oinkertools are still the best thing for working with the MDL; augmented only by Magos' Model Editor. Unfortunately, we can't link to that since Magos' website is no longer online. Tools like the MDX Squisher and Texture Pather are available in the tools section and so don't really need to be covered here; even so, they're more of a use to final mappers rather than the people on the ground making the models. The only other possible tool of note is Guesst's "Warforger", but since that is not finished and I haven't had any contact with Guesst for some time, I would hesitate to promote its use. |
