WinMPQ is considered by most to be the best MPQ editor available; although some people prefer to use TechMPQ (for reasons I not real sure of). What I'm looking for here is what everyone thinks about both of them. What do you like about them? What do you dislike about them? Which do you prefer and why? Be specific. Don't give me things like "I don't like the interface." Tell me WHY you don't like the interface, and how you would prefer it be different. What would you like to see in either of them? Constructive criticism is required if anything is to improve. |

Generally I prefer WinMPQ over any MPQ editor. Reasons: 1) It is the only MPQ editor around that supports Local IDs. This is very important, because I've the german version of Warcraft III and every *strings.txt has to be added with the appropriate Local ID if you are using a NON ENGLISH version of Warcraft III. If you haven't done yet, read also my article about Local IDs on my website. 2) The interface of WinMPQ is similiar to WinZip (or something similiar). You can drag and drop files, which is much faster than they way it is in TechMPQ. In addition WinMPQ provides more overview. 3) You can use external listfiles for MPQ's that have no good internal list (especially good for Starcraft). 4) It reads the internal list ("(listfile)", without the quotes). 5) It supports scripting, which is very important if you do the same thing over and over. Of course there are also lacks: 1) WinMPQ could be faster (maybe a remake in C++ can do this) 2) There could be some minor improvements like if you add a file that you are not only asked for the path, but also for ID, compression type, etc. |

Well..... for anyone who is trying to spell edit (cuz thats how i figured out what 1 i liked) winMPQ is MUCH easier the pop-up specifies what do do A LOT better than 3 bars, and is less confusing. Lets put it this way when i was TRYING to figure out how to get the spells to work in a game use tech i couldn't, however... when i was just messing around with win i tried it and it worked:ggani: |

I like TechMPQ better cause it actually works for me. I don't know why WinMPQ doesn't but it dies anytime I try and goto Options. *CRASH* So I can never select a listfile for it and I can't really work with a whole bunch of files if I don't have there name. There's my word, if Someone can assist me I would love to try it out again. Thanks DKSlayer |

I'm working very hard on the next version of my program. It just takes time to do. Sometime soon, I'll release a beta version for testing. |
