SPELL MAKING SESSION #12

The point of this, and all other spell making sessions, is to give all spell makers a challenge along with a specific theme. You will as a participant submit a single spell based around the given theme. Winner will be decided by public vote.

Rules:
  • You can use JASS / GUI / WEU / vJass / Anything else that you want for your spell. (Specify in the test map and entry post)
  • The spell you enter must be new and made specifically for this contest.
  • Everybody is allowed and encouraged to enter, as long as they follow the rules.
  • Please post info and WIP screenshots of your spell while you are making it to get more activity in this thread.
  • Imported models are only allowed if they are used for very minor things. (A particle emitter or ribbon emitter could be acceptable)
  • Submitted maps may be no larger than 500kb.
  • One entry per person.
When your spell is finished, just attach the map to a post in the dedicated submission thread. The reason I'm putting submissions in another topic is to keep it clean and easy to follow-up on. One of the biggest pains of these sessions is weeding through the topic and finding what's a submission and what isn't, with a dedicated submission thread we can avoid that.

Theme:

Linked Spells
The theme of this contest is to make a spell that in some way links two or more units together. This covers a wide range of spells, examples from WC3 would obviously include Spirit Link, but also spells like Drain Life/Siphon Mana or Aerial Shackles; any spell that requires at least two units to keep it's effect going and the effect itself should either be the same or reverse for the affected units.

Deadline:

The session has ended on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Votes for the best spell may be cast until November 15th in the Voting Thread.

Reward:
The winner of the session gets 20 reputation points and the award icon
displayed on the right. (Appears under your name and in your profile)

I assume "anything else" refers to systems, such as TT or CSData or the like

Hmm...
Have some questions:
- Would chain-lightning based spell with timed effects fit the rules of the contest?
- Can I use summons (wards, shadows, etc.)?
- Can I update my work, if I found some bugs?

The requirements are a bit difficult to formulate because it's a very creative spell category. Let me put it like this: the spell must not be able to affect a single unit, so if it's linking three units together and two of them die the spell must end (you can, however, also design it so it ends as soon as one unit dies). This implies a timed spell, although in theory instant spells like Death Pact could also qualify, in that spell one unit dies and the other (the caster) gets the dying unit's hit points, that could be considered as a sort of instant link.

Of course. The only requirement is the link, so the spell either needs to in some way link the summon to the caster of the spell, to the spell target or create multiple summons and link those together in some way.

Sure, you can always edit your submission post, as long as you do it before the deadline.

So if the chain link is only between the caster and the target, would that be sufficient enough to be a link based spell submission, or must it in that case be connected to 2 enemies and the caster?

Intriguing. I like this theme... I'm considering entering this one. So basically the only restriction/requirement is that the spell basically makes the units go "We're in this together one way or another" sort of thing?

Wewt.

The caster and one enemy is enough. I did list Drain Life in the examples, didn't I? :)

Pretty much.

Huh, interesting. Although, I have no experience whatsoever in this spell category. Good luck to everyone else.

Dusk, you might want to add this and the entry thread to the contest backlog.
